Books: Where to donate?

Featured Replies

I have several hundred books from when I lived in Chiang Mai in the nineties, science fiction paperbacks and a mix of non-fiction, mainly social science. I'm back for a visit and trying to sort out accumulated stuff. I think the nonfiction is too specialized, and the paperbacks not in good enough condition to be worth trying to sell. I'd like to find some way to pass them on to others who might be interested. In the US I'd donate them to a Friends of the Library Book Sale or similar event. In Bangkok, Chatuchak market used to have booksellers with older and more random assortments of books, but I don't know if there is anything like that in Chiang Mai now.

I'd welcome suggestions on where I might donate books.

Thanks.

Called AUA, they said they aren't interested and don't have room. They just cleared out a lot of books, giving them to a public library in Pai. However, I'm afraid what I have would be a bit too specialized for that. It seems tragic to just leave the books sitting around, or disposing of them as scrap paper or for landfill.

Sell them to a second-hand book store and then donate the cash to a charity of your choice.

If they are obscure titles/authors the bookshops will not buy them, great idea but not practical.

Lanna International School have a free library for their students.

They always welcome donations of books in English language.

Providing your books are in reasonable condition and no X rated or extreme political stuff, than they would welcome having a gift of your books and of course they would be going to a good cause.

Here is their website with all the details:

Give them a call. All the staff speaks English.
