NSC: Emergency decree to be invoked if situation worsens

BANGKOK: -- The government is ready to invoke state of emergency in Bangkok should the situation worsen and warrant the enforcement of the law, said National Security Council Secretary-General Paradorn Pattanathabutr on Tuesday.

He disclosed that preparatory works have been put in place for the invocation of the Emergency Decree. “It depends on the situation which will be the determinant. If the situation is upgraded to emergency level – that is if there are acts of terrorism, assaults and destruction of properties – the prime minister can invoke the law immediately,” he said.

He predicted that a lot of people would come out to join “Bangkok Shutdown” on January 13 with many of them being Bangkokians and the rest mainly from southern provinces who will start travelling to Bangkok as of Thursday.

Paradorn expressed concern that some ill-intent elements might seize this opportunity to provoke violence.

As for peace-keeping, he explained that the military would be posted at important government buildings whereas the police would be on the streets to ensure peace and order and to help direct traffic.

OK so we are at Yinglucks last resort.

And just to help things along, the home of Blue Sky channel came under a fire bomb attack this morning.

Silly me. It was pure coincidence. Must be that third party again.

What does this mean? More tear gas, chemical water and bullets at the protestors as usual? how many people you intent to kill this time? I think no cars days are better than this BS.

It seems their so called third hand is well on the way to bringing about a situation where they will get their wish for the army to come and help.

Please come and help, bring your tanks and whatever, just get rid of these pesky lot who are preventing us doing whatever we want.

But don't worry army we wont call it a coup as long as you leave us in power.

From the Earth to the Pheu Thai administration - don't count on the army's cooperation with an emergency decree you have every intention of imposing. The army won't be seduced into taking sides in this. What is telling from this announcement, is that the administration has completely backed down on what their key wish is - to have the army on the streets. The army has clearly put their foot down, and so it will potentially be the 80,000 armed police from the north where they are now training in riot control to be the real heavies. But the administration ought to be aware that if the people peacefully walking the streets are attacked by legions upon legions of armed police, the army will most definitely act, and one suspects it will not be in defense of those who will already be armed, but for the protection of those who are not.

Looking even more like deer in the headlights

Yet again we hear the same old lies from Yingluck and the puppet master.

Please provide links, evidence that this statement of yours is true, or did you just make it up?

This is a double edged sword. Both Yingluck and her ministers have been flip flopping on this for several days in typical moronic PTP style..

However, she will need the support of the Army in order to implement this and this is something that is hanging in the wind. Such implementation may well sound her death knell and she knows this.. It is very much a dammed if I do and damned if I don't scenario..

Should she deiced that the Emergency Decree is in her best interests then there can be little doubt that there will be a "third party" brought in to escalate the situation in order to obtain justification for her actions and cloud the waters. They are screwed either way as their is no credibility in what the PTP tries to fob of as plausible denial.

Owing to the ignorance and arrogance of her and her brother she has basically committed political hara kiri

This may be the factor that precipitates a military coup d'etat.

The Govt will be bringing it upon themselves .... same same the Amnesty initiative.

As usual the red shirt twits have propaganda and the situation backwards.

You are implying ''their so called third hand'' are on the anti government side, total bs, they were on the reds side in 2010 and still are. The student at Ramkamhang was possibly killed by one as per the photo of one of them pointing his gun at the time. They are Thaksin's private militia same as the reds except they are the 'elites' and the farmer reds are the canon fodder.

I have no doubt his house was attacked by reds. They have done it before and they will do it again to others too. Just the kind of people they are, it happened dozens of times in 2010.

And the protestors are protesting because the PT government of criminals believed they were above the law and they could do whatever they wanted, that is how this whole situation started....

Whatever your thoughts about Suthep and the current activities there is no doubt he has done the country a great service by highlighting the problems with the system here, let's hope some solutions can be found soon....

Where do you get the figure of 80,000 armed police from the north being trained in riot control from? There very few police around here (Isaan) over the Christmas/new years holiday. The wife said they had all gone to Bangkok.

Silly woman Yingluck may have just out manuvered Suthep so far as the military is concerned. Thus far, the military finds no cause to eject the current administration from power and leaves open the possibility of actually protecting the administration's presence by guarding government property and its employees. Its role could be expanded to supplement the national police should it be overwhelmed guarding public safety and private property through a state of emergency.

Communications are always strategic, and knowing that the military is on standby, I hope that that Cell Phone and Internet services will be protected, as well as basic utilities and transportation. Airport must stay open.

Another thought, if military presence could utilize "Childrens Day" to ease concerns of any possible mobilization, then they could just as well use an Emergency Decree for whatever reason. Stand by to Stand by.....
