a pirate was shooting at him from the lifeboat

the US naval cruisers captain would not shoot at the pirate shooting at the person in the water until he knew for sure who he was shooting at.

two thoughts:

who cares who he was shooting at? just kill him

why would he be shooting at anyone but CP? just kill him

as it was the pirates turned the lifeboat around, got hold of CP again and dragged him back into the lifeboat and there he was , a captive again without the US navy firing a shot to help him

if i was CP i would be seriously pissed with the navy after taking my chance to escape ,swimming towards their naval destroyer, only to be recaptured right under their noses of the US navy by a Somali on a piss pot tugboat with an aging AK47

See what you're saying and I agree, it was stupid that they ended up getting him back in the lifeboat when the US navy were just yards away.

The Best Offer: was a better movie... IMHO.

I was rather disappointed when i saw it, not the great movie it's hyped to be.

When i can't understand is in this age of satellites, drones, attack helicopters etc how a few rag heads in a speedboat can highjack modern liners. I mean one sniper at the back of the ship could have taken out those 4 high jackers before they got within 1/2 mile of the ship.

I thought Captain Phillips was awful. Tom Hanks played the same role he plays in all his films - Mr Faultless, the epitome of the apple-pie, mom-loving, stars and stripes flag-waving, better than anybody else American. Throw in millions of dollars worth of hardware (3 warships, a helicopter and a team of Navy Seals) to take on 4 (that's just four) Somali pirates. 3 of the pirates were shot dead and the 4th ended up being sentenced to 33 years in a high security prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. I left the cinema feeling empty. I've visited the USA many times and there are many, many wonderful people and places there. They are horribly misrepresented by this film. It essentially says "We are the mighty USA and if you cross us we will crush you mercilessly, no matter what the cost". Tom Hanks best film was Turner & Hooch, though the dog was the better actor.

Well what a suprise, this thread has turned into a topic about how much it cost for a ticket...who would have thought!

Actually my point was not as much the 160 baht, but the increase.I

ts probably been a couple of months since I used Central to watch a movie, and I paid 130 baht.

So there has been a 23% increase since then ?

In Norway the price of a ticket is 650 baht so for me 160 baht is a bargain , even if I earn 4 times less than when I lived and worked in Norway

I saw the movie and it was not all that bad. It was also a true story that i do remember reading about some years ago, what jogged my memory was the navy seals snipers shooting all three pirates at the same time off the back of the USS BOXER. Obviously it being a movie, it will not show all the fear or the danger that the real captain and his crew went through, but they didn't do a bad job of showing it.
