I dont know, that's the reason why I asked.

I thought the blue house book (house register) would need to have my name in stating my address in Thailand.

Obviously not.

Your name won't be in the blue book as an entry like a thai.

But it will be in there has the father of your child.

All kids have mom and dads names next to them

Ok mate, just to clear things up, I am married to a thai but Dont have any kids. I'm pretty sure my name was in the house register as living there when we did (she did) own our house. Now that we have sold our house, we rent and obviously don't have a house register anymore. My missus says she doesn't have any house register with her name in anymore.

Hope that makes sense.

Ok.

This is what I was trying to get at, if I go to savanakhet, I won't have a house register to take with me, so will they issue me a non o multiple entry visa without one.

A foreigner is not listed as the spouse of a Thai national in the blue house registration book (unless the district office made a mistake)

Your wife should still have the house book she got when she obtained a house book for the one you built and sold. If she still has a copy of it would work for the visa.

She really needs to get moved into another house book though. It could be a family members or friends it does not matter.

You will not get the visa without a copy of the house book registry.

I wll be going to Savannakhet soon to get a NON 'O' based on marriage.

A few questions as usual...

i think I'm clear on paperwork required, that seems straight forward enough. I am currently on a double entry toursist visa, I am on my second entry with takes me up to the end of July, with a 30 day extension this will take me up to the end of August, with this in mind does it matter when I go to apply for the visa, would anytime in August be ok?

I note that this is a 2 night stop over asuming I get to the consult first thing, would it make sense to spend both nights in Savannaket rather than 1 night in Mukdahan then changing hotels and having 1 night in Laos? Is this casino hotel Thai or Laos side?

Does anyone know if the new consult is open yet?

Finally, I will be using Ubon airport for this trip as that seems the best way in my mind, how or where do I pick the van up from in Mukdahan to take me back to the airport in the afternnon?

Thanks.

You can go anytime you want to get the visa now. You don't have to get the 30 day extension if you don't want to.

You apply for the visa the morning of day one and pick it up the next afternoon. It is possible to do it with only one night in Savannakhet.

Flying in to Ubon would need to fly in the the day before you apply. It would be best to spend the night in Savannakhet.

The Casino is in Laos. But there are some fairly good hotels near the consulate.

The consulate has not moved yet,

There are no vans available at the airport in Ubon. You have to go to the main bus station to get one to Mukdahan. You can get a meter taxi for about 70 baht or less to the bus station. On return to Ubon you will arrive at the bus station.

Posted

Thanks Joe, that's a bit more messing it around than I thought then The reason I mentioned to tae a van from the airport to the border is because somebody on here said that you can do that and even said that the last bus leaves at 7pm?

As I understand you have to be at the consult by 11am latest, so if I'm coming from bkk how can I realistically be at the consult by say 10.30? even a 6am flight from bkk may not get you there in time?

Just to confirm ref the docs, the only original they require is the marriage cert, my name won't be on my wifes blue house book, but they wouldn't expect it to, correct?

Thanks.

I think you confused Udon Thani with Ubon Ratchaithani, There are vans from the Udon airport to the bridge in Nong Kai.

I would not try to fly into Ubon and try and make it in time to get the visa application submitted.

Only you only need the original of your marriage certificate and signed and dated copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

You name cannot be in a blue house book..

No, not confused. I read on here that someone got a flight to Ubon then got a van service from the airport to Mukdahan (spelt wrong no doubt) and he said it took around 2 hours.

I really can't see how I can be in Savanakhet (spelt wrong I'm sure) by 10.30 latest if I leave bkk same day?

I can assure you there is no scheduled van service at the airport here in Ubon.

Perhaps you read an old report of somebody getting one arranged with the casino when they were doing that.

Ok, I'm quite sure you are right.

I just did a search and see that the Ploy Palace hotel will pick you up from the airport, assuming you stay there of course, for 350 baht. so maybe I will do that and stay the night there as I would mantain that you won't get to the consult by 10.30 if flying out of bkk at 6am, even more so if there are no vans at the airport.

Thanks for your help.

so do I understand that right ? If you want a multiple-O based on marriage, you don't need to show ANY proof of income or funds, whereas if you want to apply for a non-O based on age (50+), you need to show income or funds even for a SINGLE entry ? that would be...... weird, isn't it ? I actually want to apply for a multiple non-O based on age (50+), as I don't have a need to transfer it into a 1-year-non-O with no exits necessary. I never use the full 90 days anyway. But this seems to be not possible in Savannakhet (or elsewhere) ?

If you were to go to Vientiane you could possibly get a single entry non-o with no funds.

You will not get a multiple entry in the region for being 50 or over.

Been to Savannakhet last thursday, entered Laos at 8am, and back in Mukdahan at 4.30pm, visa (non-immigrant O) is ready now in one day, hand it in between 9-11 in morning and pick it up at 3.30 in afternoon. Still a chaotic happening, consulate staff have to act like teachers in a kindergarden to form a que. But at least now you can return to thailand the same day. Not many 'farang' anymore, maybe that's the reason why it goes more quickly now.

They also still operate in the old building, although the new one is ready to move in.

Can your wife be the guarantor in Thailand?

You can leave it blank or write self in that space on the application form.

Am I correct in saying that the only ORIGINAL doc that I need to take is the marriage cert, if so, do I take a copy as well? and about the kor ror2 registry doc, do I take that as well?

Also can someone point me to where I can download the application form for this?

Thanks.

Take the original and copies. I have never needed the KR2, but if you have it, take it. Just use the application form at the consulate, a generic one will not be accepted.

clap2.gif Nice report but I just want to make it clear that your non O visa was based on marriage to a Thai.

That's fine but it is very unlikely that anyone will get a non O visa multi entry or otherwise visa based on retirement anywhere in Asia. including Savannakhet.

I only say this because I don't want over 50's going to Savannaket and assuming they will easily get a visa for retirement.

Almost all the non O visa (maybe all of them) are for those married to a Thai.

Right now, Savannakhet is the place to get a non O visa for those married to a Thai. That's fine, but no one should assume it will be like that forever.

In 2010 when I first got a non O retirement visa from Hull it was easy and one of the easiest places in the world to get such a visa.

Today, as evidenced by many posts on this forum, Hull is not so easy. The rules have been changed.

All I want those who look for visas in Savannakhet is that TODAY it is easy to get a visa there for someone married to a Thai.

But, just like Hull in 2010, things can change.

So always have a backup "plan B" if required.

'O

Pleased advised - as having been admonished before by the TVF Mods/Admins several times - there is no such thing as a Non 'O' Visa for Retirement. It does not exist. If one is from certain countries one can get a Non Imm "O-A" Long Stay Visa - basically equivalent to an 'Extension of Stay based on Retirement' from the Thai Embassy in their home country - but it is not common. Most often one gets an 'Extension of Stay based on Retirement' while in Thailand (and not to be referred to as Category "O" or "O-A") while on a Non Imm Visa... (complicated - but eventually understandable).

Yep. At the Thai consults in the UK, you have to be 65 years old to get a NON-O, but it itsn't based on retirement.

What a great post!

One thing I don't understand, forgive the digression, is why in the hell do we have to go out of the country to get this visa? Anyway, whatever, I'll accept it, but I just don't quite get it. Our most intimate family member is a Thai, and we can't go to an office in Thailand. Maybe they do have their reasons.

Thanks for the info!!

--------------------------

Because you don't get a VISA in Thailand.

Visas are given outside Thailand by a Thai consulate or embassy.

EXTENSIONS are given inside Thailand by the Thai immigration locally.

What many people mistakenly call a "marriage visa" is an extension for one year of the visa you got outside of Thailand.

The visa allows you into the country. With a visa you have to leave the country every 90 days and then re-enter to get a new 90 day stamp.

The extension you get fro marriage to a Thai from immigration in Thailand is the one that has a financial requirement to receive it.

The extension ("marriage visa") is the one that requires 90 day reporting in country ay your local Thai immigration office.

They are two different things, visas and extensions (marriage visas).

I know this isn't breaking news, but I just got off the blower to Hull and the lady confirmed that they can no longer accept postal applications for any visas Is this across the board with all the consults, I assume it is?

Regarding the Embassy in London (perish the thought) does anyone know how easy/diffulcult it is to obtain a NON-O based on marriage from there and how long does it take to be issued?

Thanks.
