Solid Core Exterior Door.

I want to purchase a solid core, exterior door to replace an easily broken-into hollow core door that opens to my way too easily accessed balcony. When my GF locked her keys inside recently, all the building security guy had to do was climb over a elevator lobby fence onto my balcony and give the door one good kick and he was in.

I checked HOME-PRO at Ploen Chit but all they had were ornamental front doors. What I want is a simple solid core, flat "flush" door. Any suggestions on where to find one in the central Bangkok area?

The steel reinforced, steel framed, super security doors are beyond my budget. Too bad as the thought of the security guy trying to kick one of those babies in kind of warms me.

Drive around and look at them woodshops. I see doors everywhere along the road. Teakwood costs like 10k but they also have other woods who are cheaper.

I have redwood, very heavy and hard.

I just removed a door I wanted replaced, took it down to a local welder shop and have them make a custom one to the same dimensions. Just spec the thickness of the skin, and best to use solid blocks for where the locks and hinges are.

Skin it with a plastic wood veneer and it looks like a cheap wood door, but would take some serious hardware to knock down, especially when set the right direction in a concrete wall.

Can get very solid keyless PIN entry locks as well in Chinatown, not expensive.

I think 10K or so all up. . .

When the guy "kicked the door in", what gave way, the door or the locking mechanism.? Is suspect the lock. If you replace the door with a solid core door you would also need to beef you the locking system. Solid plain doors should be available at any Home Mart. They will always try to sell you the expensive ones, but the plain ones are available, at least where I live in the boonies.

I ended up having an interior company do one for me after not having much luck at Home Pro and Thai Watsahdu or the wood shops in Bang Sue. New one going in later this week will be solid core and I picked a laminate out of a huge selection, so was able to get a look I wanted...this also included install and my current door had a lot of issues...so a bit more $ but when all considered a good value!

I had a heavy slide bolt...two actually but since the door is hollow, the screws holding the slide bolt had nothing to bite in to and easily pulled away. That is why i am looking for solid core door.

Thanks for the suggestion. i really don't have the space or tool resources to do that extensive a project.

Do you mind if I ask what is all cost, bottom line?

A hollow door, or a panel door can still serve your purpose if it has a solid wood frame for securing sliding bolts.

Sliding bolts should be 25-30 cm long, one sliding to the top and the other into the floor. And instead of a cylindrical lock, use a deadbolt as a lock.
