Chalerm vows to resort to talks in dealing with protesters

BANGKOK, 23 January 2014 (NNT) – Labor Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, as head of the Center for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO), has pledged that he will negotiate with the anti-government protesters to end their activities without using force.

After a meeting of the CMPO, Mr Chalerm stated that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had re-emphasized to security units the importance of practicing non-violent means and complying with international standards when handling demonstrators. The CMPO Chief, in return, called on the protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to respect the rights of others and quit their besiegement of government offices.

Estimating that the number of rally-goers was dropping, Mr Chalerm disclosed a plan to seek talks with the PDRC in a bid to peacefully reclaim the protest sites, possibly starting with the one on Chaeng Wattana Road.

The CMPO is scheduled to convene another meeting tomorrow at an undisclosed location. It is expected that a clear set of rules and restrictions under the emergency decree as well as other details will be ready for announcement to the public on January 27.

Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation Tharit Pengdit and Secretary-General of the National Security Council Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabutr have been assigned to help oversee the enforcement of the special law.

Suthep and his thugs only want to destroy the country, so why try to talk with a mad man. Either fully invoke the SOE or drop it. As of now the SOE has been worthless.

Good thing he doesn't get paid on commission related to how much peace and order is maintained. The poor guy would starve to deathclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Chalerm assures no force to be used against protesters

BANGKOK: -- Peace-keeping Centre Director Chalerm Yubamrung gave an assurance Wednesday that the government would not resort to the use of force to disperse the protesters but would try to talk them into calling off the protests.

Chalerm who is put in charge of enforcing the Emergency Decree which came into effect today said that details of the measures to be meted out in accordance with the decree would be known on Monday.

He pleaded with protesters not to shut down government officials and warned that any attempt to break into government premises would be dealt with in accordance with international standard of practice.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Anudit Nakhonthap assured that people could pursue their normal life as usual and their rights would not be infringed upon by the decree.

However, he pleaded with the public not to join the protests and to cooperate with authorities in making searches especially at night.

Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, also head of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order, said that the government is still open to talk with the protesters to find a solution to the political conflict.

The Emergency Decree has proven to be futile as protesters have defied the decree openly. All protest sites are still crowded with people.

you are so easily miss led

The Govt, have made a massive mistake

If they hold an election during a SOE, they will be taken back to court and the full election will be thrown out

The mad man is not in this country and he seems to be making massive mistake, after massive mistake

Yingluck and her currupt mob are drowning now and just grasping at any piece of wood the floats by

Lets just hope when the new government is formed that the courts will quickly come down with a verdict on all those charged and they be banned from politics for life if found guilty, and that includes Suthep if he is found guilty or curruption

If we are to have a temporary committee in charge then lets make is balanced and some one from all areas of Thailand be part of the committee

Dream on, it will be the same old gang. I would bet on a fix being engineered which will put Abhisit in the Prime Minister's chair by Songkran. Suthep will go back to running his fiefdom in the south, palm oil rackets and all.

He had a jolly old time, downing a few bottles of wine before being escorted off the premises.

its more like he "threatens" and he will. because thats what he does. Remember when he said, "its not my fault if someone throws a hand gernade into the middle of the protests." this guy is scum. pure. scum. so pure in fact even his children are scum. Not many people i know who have children that openly kill people in PUBLIC, and get away with it. so i guess the policy is, if i kill a cop, i have to join the police force and be trained as a sniper?
