PoorSucker
I have gone with bus from Chiang Mai to Samui once. Had to switch bus in BKK, took 24 hrs. You know that AirAsia flies direct from Chiang Mai to Phuket?

searcher22
I also presume you know that Thailand has the 3rd-worst record in the world for road accidents, and that there is a major bus accident every two or three weeks in the country, especially overnight buses (including many tourist deaths). Think hard before making a long journey on a bus (if it's to save a few bahts). I'm flying to Krabi (near Phuket) next month direct from Chiang Mai for less than the price of the bus. But one has to book many months in advance.

naboo
Nakhonchaiair, around 800 baht and about 10 to 11 hours At over 1500 kilometers, that would average over 150kph! From memory, it is close to 24hrs and not much cheaper than flying.

From memory, it is close to 24hrs and not much cheaper than flying. My wife and I along with two other couples drove down there and had to overnight in Cha am. All told I think it was about 18 hours of non stop driving. that included the fuel stops. won't be doing that drive again.

Oscar2
flying is about the same as, or perhaps even 100-200 Baht less than a bus and much, much safer. wait...someone just said the bus is 1700 Baht. you can fly on Air Asia for about 890 Baht. takes 90-100 minutes. have done it many times. WinnieTheKhwai
At this point is probably good to stress to NOT EVER book bus tickets from travel agents, hotels or guesthouses. Always, always, always stick to the legal, government regulated bus companies that depart from actual bus stations, like the Arcade terminal. crazyguyinthailand
WOOW Chiang Mai to Phuket, I took a bus from Phuket to BKK once and it was a living hell. not only the longest journey ever but it actually crashed. I took some photos of it. I can show them later. anyway the driver lived on red bulls I saw him drink over 8 bottles. after the crash changed to a new buss same driver, couple of M150 and on our way to Happy BKK

elektrified
I'm a frequent flyer on Air Asia. I am also flying to Bangkok next month for about the same price; only about 100 Baht more - so 829.00 appx. (round trip). Air Asia has promotions often. We buy many tickets at a time. But what does it have to do with a bus to Phuket?

eyecatcher
After yesterdays "yet another bus crash" got me thinking that you get better odds playing russian roulette. I always travelled by coach but with the one that took a leap of faith over the pitsanaluk bridge last month and this one during the day I too will be flying or car renting in future.
