Chalerm tells protesters to leave govt offices in 72 hours or face arrests

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, the director of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, on Monday issued an ultimatum to protesters to halt their siege of government offices within 72 hours.

Chalerm said the protesters would be arrested if they refused to stop blocking government offices.

"I'll deploy assault units, which will be set up today, to arrest all of them for violating the emergency decree and for illegal intrusion into government offices," Chalerm said.

He said the CMPO would not yet seek help from the armed forces to launch the crackdowns.

He said people who were besieging government offices should leave and return to the rally sites.

"Action will be taken against only those who are blocking the work of government officials, not against other demonstrators," Chalerm said.

He said the actions would be taken by the CMPO and would have nothing to do with the prime minister," adding "I'll take responsibility myself".

Assault Units...or Red Shirt assassins?

Assault units? So he does want violence. Can't wait till he gets his cold plate of karma served up to him. What a sick, drunken parasite.

Anti Idiots.

To evacuate these areas would take the protesters about 4 minutes.

Chalerm shows a lot of patience by giving them 72hrs...

Many would be very grateful to him for putting an end to this irrational mess within a much shorter period.

But Chalerm didn't say the arrests would occur immediately after the 72 hour deadline. ..it's still an opened ended deadline. ..just another ultimatum which most likely won't be followed through on.

What do to think would happen if a group of thugs occupied the White House or the Elysee Palace?

Do you think other countries would send clowns to join the party and provide entertainment?

Nope. Assault teams. And much sooner. They wouldn't wait 3 months.

More drunken rantings from The Headless one.

The only task this man is capable of finishing is his drinks cabinet.

Arrests or death?

More extrajudicial killings that you don't know about where the police will show good judgement?

Why not ask Thaksin to turn him self in….????

World opinion will back him, because the videos of citizens being blocked from voting have gone viral. What the Thai Army will do is what he has to worry about.

72 hours too long. It should be 24 hours.

I can't recall that Obama handed out 10 USD cash in the slums for a vote. As well he didn't tried to make some amnesty law for his brother.

Chalerm is usually good for "action will be taken and problem solved in 90 days" Then eff all happens. Something must be annoying him

Maybe they'll leave, then just come right back once Chalerm steps out to go drinking.

He's worried that supply chains of ear medicine may be cut. That's enough for him to get upset.

Protesters will be grateful for the warning - expect hundreds of them at the sites tomorrow. You gonna need lots of police to deal with them.

Good luck with the assault units Chalerm. It's easy for armed police to beat and kill protestors but surviving the backlash without an amnesty is usually more difficult.

how about give then 12 hours. And then move in and move them if necessary. Could you please then move them away from Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection and then from Silom Rd. I just took a walk along both sites today. It was early morning at Asoke and not much happening. Silom on the other hand is an absolute circus. Screeching karaoke grandmas and opportunistic vendors flogging fake watches and hello kitty knock-offs. The face of the democratic movement. What a joke. An excuse for some karaoke from some under-empoyed grannies, thugs, bullies and layabouts - and of course the street vendors, to f@#$k up life for ordinary citizens.

If the police move in and Chalerm gets his wish to have protestors killed then it's likely there'll be a coup. The military already said they won't stand by if people are killed by the police.

Everyone has their version of thugs. Chalerms happens to be called assault units. For sure blood will be spilled if they use assault units which is why he is already trying to take the blame off of YL

Well that has been Suthep's intention from Day1. To goad te police into violence against the demonstrators. One thing you can be certain of os that when the batons and bullets start tto fly, suthep will nowhere to be seen.

The authority should make available transports for those who want to go home to their provinces.

Nope. If he truly wanted that, the protestors could have become really violent like the red shirts were in 2010. While the 3 months of protests have had a few violent episodes, it has been relatively peaceful. How do you goad the police into violence if your protest has been relatively non violent?

He's probably just constipated, I'm sure he will feel better tomorrow.

Completely agree with you as I do the below.

What do to think would happen if a group of terrorists threatened to blow up LPG truck, grenade attacks at Thai banks, attacked Thai charity with grenades, stormed parliament, attacked NPP and TPI buildings with M16 and grenades, stormed police hospital, stormed TV station, bomb attacked on electricity pylons, 2 police taken hostage, destroy CCTV cameras, dumped tyres on sky train tracks?
