Any Chinese New Year Celebrations in CM?

Are there any public celebrations eg parades and the like taking place in CM?

I've not been here for CNY before so don't know where to go/if it's worth going to anything that might be on.

I saw some Lion dancers in the street yesterday, and folks have been setting off firecrackers all morning today in the sois below my windows.

Chinatown will be one big festival with traditional foods incl. whole roast pigs, dragon dances, performances and lots of people!

Chinese New Year in Chiang Mai

January 31-February 1, 2014 [Year of the Horse])

The Chinese Lunar New Year date usually falls in January/February. Celebrated in many areas of Thailand, but particularly in the Chinatown districts of Chiang Mai

In Chiang Mai, the focus of the celebrations will be the Chinese temple at the Warorot (Kad Luang) market, by the Ping River. This year there will be fire dragon shows, lion dances and exhibitions of kung <deleted> fighting from Guangxi Province in China. There is also a photographic and art exhibition tracing the history of the Chinese community and the Warorot market. This will take place at Trok Lao Cho, one of the old wooden shophouses at the bottom of Tha Pae Road, adjacent to the market. Still, the celebration is more sedate than seen in other foreign countries, and only recently is perceived as an opportunity for tourists and local non-Chinese Thai people to participate in some way.

I only know that Chinese cultural hall on Soi McDonald.

They also usually have acrobats in the hall in Warrorot Market making human pillars some 5-6 people tall. Quite amazing.

the biggest event will happen in wararot market blue arrow

central festival are putting on a bit of a show green arrow

and there might be something going on in anusarn market red arrow

ive never seen a chinese new year parade here but i might have missed them
