Asus ZenFone Android Smartphones Powered by Intel Atom CPU to Sell for as Low as $99

Featured Replies

That $99 phone has such a small battery it would be useless for even an average user. Also some apps still have problems working on Intel.

asus is a well respected name with a long history of very successful products. i would assume they know what they are doing, and your credential are what exactly?

oh sorry i missed it, your credentials are 5 hours a day talking on the phone and considering that as average. yeah they have even got a slightly more expensive model with a bigger battery for you too.rolleyes.gif wow that took a lot of fore though and planning by asus, perhaps we should award them a goldmedal.w00t.gifrolleyes.gif

The $99 phone has an 1170 mah battery. With the specifications listed it is VERY small. You buy a smartphone to do smartphone stuff like browsing the internet etc.... And my credentials ... a user of a few different spec Android handsets. Asus are indeed a good computer manufacturer. Smartphones we shall see!

But bringing the phone price point down is good ..I have a Motorola Moto G an excellent phone at its price point. £104 ($174)

Agree with casualbiker - the base model with 4" screen has pretty basic, OK specs, but the 1170 mah battery is pretty low, I don't know what is up with manufacturers trying to make slim devices that can't last a full day, in this case it won't even last a half a day, so what's the point of having a smartphone that need to be carried with a spare battery or a powerbank or a charger and constantly looking to plug it in? If we try to conserve power and and only use it for the phone calls and send/receive occasional SMS, then the old Nokia phone will do it just as good, will be cheaper and will last a 2-3 days.

We should be given a choice of the battery to go with our devices by the manufacturer! If someone sits in an office with wall plug by his side a whole day, that's fine to have a slim phone with a skinny battery, but if someone is out a whole day and want their phone to last, they should be able to choose a larger size battery.

The top spec 6" model with 3230 mah battery is better but still not gonna last a whole day of average usage, we also don't know of the power consumption of ATOM chips.

My Samsung Note 3 came with 3200 mah (5.7" screen) and it was a huge improvement over my retired Samsung S2 with 1650 mah battery and 4.3" screen, but it still wasn't enough for most of the days.

Here's what I've got now:

It's a ZeroLemon 10,000 mah battery which due to it's size came with a case and an outer shell, as well as a belt clip which can serve as an adjustable kickstand.

Yes it made my phone about 2x heavier and thicker but this battery is 3x the size of the OEM battery, depending on usage I charge it 2-3 times per week, I get about a day of screen on time (and we know the screen is #1 battery drainer), overall it's great and I like how it feels in the hand and the added weight.
