BANGKOK, Jan 31 – Pro-government activists were today discouraged from wearing red clothing to avoid violence before and during the general elections, scheduled for Sunday.

Thida Thavornseth, leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said she received a report regarding unscrupulous people possibly wearing red outfits feigning to be UDD members in creating unrest – an activity that could eventually lead to a coup.

She called on UDD core leaders to refrain from violent activity and vowed to strongly support the election.

Ms Thida expressed sympathy to farmers who have not been paid for the rice they sold under the rice pledging scheme and criticised some commercial banks for refusing to extend loans for the government’s payment.

“UDD members will stage protests against those banks on behalf of farmers countrywide after the election,” she said.

UDD core leader Yossawaris Chuklom, better known for his comedian name as Jeng Dokjik, demanded that anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban stop charging the Shinawatra family with corruption.

He said UDD members in metropolitan Nonthaburi province will campaign against a coup and any protester insurrection along with urging people to go to the polls on Sunday.

They will hold candle-lighting activities at provincial halls in Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan this evening, he said.
In the eastern coastal town of Pattaya, UDD activists will gather at Bang Lamung police station to show their support for the police.

Weng Tochirakarn, a top UDD leader, said an election is aimed at protecting the democratic system and it is the duty of the Thai people to exercise their voting rights as well as preventing any attempt to disrupt the polls.

He warned that the anti-election movement is a violation of both the election and criminal laws. (MCOT online news)

It simply amazes me how the reds find a way to place blame for the bad things on other people instead of on the gov that stared the problem. Her idea to prorest the banka for not lending the gov money is ludicrous. What line of thought does she follow to blame the banks for not paying the rice farmers? This was the gov problem. YL legacy. Besides the facts that it is queationable if it is even legal for the caretaker gov to take such loans.

Here we go, it's not the government's fault, it's the nasty banks not giving them loans for paying the farmers.... facepalm.gif

To be fair. If Yingluck had not yielded to Suthep they would be paid by now. The problem for Yingluck is that under her rule the government is selling rice, but not Thai rice, rather inferior imported and vastly cheaper rice from Cambodia and who is getting the money? This tidbit of info comes from a person within the government that on Tuesday applied for a high paying job at a recruiting agency that a certain person works for. He is sick to the bone of what is happening, myself included...

Interesting priorities:

1. Phuea Thai / Shincorporated.

2. Poor rural farmers / red shirt constituents.

At least she's not calling them "fake farmers" today.

Wear yellow or blue and you will be safe. Oh no, don't forget to carry with you the designer bluesky branded whistle with you. Whistling as you walk along to polling station.

Don't forget to blow your whistle after your voting.

It works both ways doesn't it? We can have some Shinawatra scum wearing the flag and whistle and causing trouble.

I don't know what Thida could be implying. To suggest people would be fooled into believing the UDD could ever be violent. It's unfathomable.
