For a basic bike at a cheap price Tesco is good .

Don't buy a basic cheap bike. It's all window-dressing, i.e., looks good today, but tomorrow or the next day it'll start falling apart. They are cheaply made, and cheaply priced. Moreover, there's no bike repair service at places like Tesco. For the best bang for your baht, go to an established bike shop.

front shocks .Four years later its still as good as new, no rust and has not needed any repair .If it does I can do it myself or just give it to any bike shop .

21-23" is usually considered an XL size, right? Let us know if you find any in stock.

Buy according to what you need or what you plan and using the bike for while keeping in mind that you might enjoy it and want to grow into the sport a bit more. A cheap Tesco bike is probably fine for going to the market and the coffee shop. I've had good and bad luck at most of the shops in town, treated pretty horribly at Bikemall but lately Velocity have been much more professional as they have grown into a thriving business. It might be worth a trip to BKK where I have bought my bikes in the past but even there better be prepared for some nonsense.

Anto, I think it's great that you and many more people are out riding and enjoying life. But I did just want to point out that here a Mt. Bike can be anything from a cheap Thai made bicycle that looks like a mt bike but doesn't really function like one or hold up if ridden hard off-road to a muti-hundred thousand baht machine. I bought LA bikes for my Thai boys for 3000 bht each for riding around the village etc but they quickly grew out of them (not size wise) when they started riding with me on the single track. I'm now shopping for new bikes for them already and the ones they have are in perfect working condition but just not for the way they ride anymore. Don't forget the form over function aspect of the consumer culture here.

Thanks again for the Input and Info visit already some shops and I am quite astonished of the variety of the different models after I got a tennis elbow -tennis is out of question for some time but need moving so bicycle seems a good choice but it's 30 years ago that I last looked into buying one it was easy back than highly complicated it seems today - miss the European test reports on products (Stiftung Warentest ) like that as a support. Will get an overview the next weeks and post the result of my final buy- thanks guys

Yeah I bought one a few years back too - I immediately replaced the pedals (cheap plastic crap - with ally imports - bigger and wider too, better for my clod-hoppers). The frames are good, the brakes and pedals are crap. Much cheaper to just change them with after market stuff - that's what I did - did 20Km on it today in fact, second time this week. Only fix I have had to do, other than inner tubes which don't last long here (guess its the heat - not punctures just rubber giving out) is a rear tyre worn through.

Planning on getting a new one later in the year - fancy a 21 gear mountain bike - so will probably have to go to a proper bike shop. Do agree about the parts though, Tesco and BigC sell the bikes, but no parts other than inner tubes.
