Thai Film Festival coming to Yangon

Featured Replies

The Thai Film Festival will be held for the first time ever in Myanmar this year. At the end of March, 40 actors and performers from Thailand will visit Yangon to appear at the event, which is organised by Media 7 in Myanmar and Kantana JK company in Thailand.

From The Myanmar Times, by Lwin Mar Htun

“The culture of the Thai and Myanmar people is very similar and the Thai movie market is already developed in Myanmar. So we aim to be develop the media sector in Myanmar even more and hope to encourage cultural exchange,” said Wai Min Maung, managing director of Media 7.
The film festival will be held over three days, March 28-30, and one film will be screened each day. Among the Thai actors who are on the bill is Mario Maurer, who is already famous in Myanmar since he appeared as the lead character in Pee Mak, a Thai horror film that screened in Yangon in 2013.
“We sent an invitation to him, but we’re not sure on his side. At the present, he’s the most popular actor in Thailand. So, he’s very busy now. That’s why we haven’t got a confirmed answer from him. I also hope to see him at our event,” Win Min Maung said.
All entertainment programs will start in the evening at 5pm, but there will be industry events in the morning. The event will also feature live music performances.
