Why have my fish stopped eating?

Featured Replies

I have 3 carp in my pond about 12" long that I've had for 4 years. Recently, one appeared to go blind, as it just follows the wall of the pond (circular) around by touching his fin against the wall. The other two seem to be concerned/distressed as they just follow the blind one around and none show any interest in food. I have tried changing the brand of fish food and even giving them small pieces of bread which they used to love, but no interest at all. How long an this situation last before they die of starvation?

Start by changing the water and get yourself a test kit and see if the water is within normal parameters.

I changed water and filter yesterday, also bought some "Aquatic" drops that supposedly disinfect the water, but no change so far.

Test the water, as the ph might be off, or the water in general is just not good. Not sure how big your pond is, but if not too big maybe buy some drinking water and not just change the tap water. Also make sure you remove all waste that has built up if you haven't done so.

The pond is about 4' across and 18" deep, so a bit big to change to drinking water. Never had a problem in 4 years and always used tap water, the pool filter always kept clean, so I guess a water test is next. Thanks.
