where the hell is Thanin market?

Featured Replies

we live in chang phuak, just south of the super highway and a bunch of people have been recommending what I believe is thanin market, quite close to here. however, whenever i google it i end up with an address on chang phuak road (contrary to what we've been told).

we live here.

does anyone know the nearest fruit and veg market to where we're staying, and whether this is, in fact, thanin market?

the direction board from chang phueak rd shows siriwattana market instead of tanin market, so dont miss it

It's also called Siri Wattana Market - IIRC that's what the signs say.

There's also another smaller food market a few hundred meters north of Kwang Sing intersection on Chottana Road that's about the same distance from you. Several of my Thai friends complain Thanin is expensive.

Thanin/Siriwattana and all its other names is popular with Rajaphat students due to its convenient location. A friend of mine who lives and owns a coffee shop about half-way between Thanin and the market on the river near the U.S. consulate does her shopping at the river market.

Thanin market (กาดธานินทร์) seems identical (or part of) to Siri Wattana market (ตลาดศิริวัฒนา) which is found on google maps.

It's extremely busy traffic in that whole square...noisey and polluted....impossible to park unless you have a bike...

I always find a place to park my care there. Very high quality produce at this market and also lots of excellent prepared foods. Also, great tofu at a stand in front of the butcher section.

Check out the salad bar there we go 2 or 3 times a week. Stuff is fresh and reasonable.

Polluted? It is one of the cleanest markets with nice tiled floors. It was completely refurbished about 8 years back. It has some of the best prepared foods. For produce it is more limited but still has most everything at standard prices.

When I lived on that side of town, I loved it. Now I am about 5kilos away so I rarely go, but occassionally I get a craving for some of vendors dishes.

Shop there 3 or 4 times a week. Great produce. Stationary store on N side has good prices and great selection.

If you want REALLY good prices, be prepared to go to Muangmai Market at 0200 !!!

Where is the Muangmai Market? Can you give map references, please?

EDIT: Oops! Never mind... Google Maps pinpointed it. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

muang Mai market is right near the US consulate. It is a wholesale market. Truly a must do and see for produce.

I saw one of those reality cooking tv shows that had the poser Chefs at Tanin market. I wanted to share this bit of info that does the OP absolutely no good, doesn't address the side discussion of cleanliness and probably is inaccurate concerning the skill level of the program's contestants.
