Minister may be forced to attend Songkhla meet: EC

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Election commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn proposed that the commission order caretaker Interior Minister and Pheu Thai Party leader Charupong Ruangsuwan to visit Songkhla after leaders of coalition parties refused an invitation from the agency to discuss election problems in the province.

Songkhla is one of eight provinces with no candidates. Somchai said the EC had the authority to call on government officers to coordinate the running of elections under Article 8 of the EC Act, though the EC had opted not to do so.

Somchai said he wanted the EC to meet three groups - national security officials, state officials linked to the government's performance in the North and Northeast, where Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been visiting, and governors of provinces that need to organise a re-registration of poll candidates.

However, in reaction to Somchai's proposal, other EC members said they wanted to observe the situation before summoning state officers to give information.

The good minister seems very reluctant to visit the south , perhaps he's health might suffer , of course this hasn't been helped by the former PM (Dubai Spiv)and the Thai Love Thai parties practice of destroy missions and the ineffectual PTP tyring to pick up the damaged pieces without any idea of how to handle a problem that smacks of Shinawatra all over it, in the South the Administrations on all sides have their hands tied, with outside help.

It would be interesting to list amounts of tax collection province by province to compare tax contributions between the North and the South.
