Yingluck to ask for postponement for NACC testimony: chief lawyer

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker premier Yingluck Shinawatra is to ask for a postponement in providing testimony to the national anti-graft committee on the rice-pledging scheme because more time is needed to compile documents, the chief of her legal team said on Thursday.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has charged Yingluck with neglect of duty for failing to stop the scheme from damaging the state. She is due to testify to the NACC on March 14.

Phiraphan Phalusuk said there are several documents related to the charges and the team of lawyers needed more time to prepare.

He added the NACC had allowed Yingluck's lawyers to review evidence against her in the ricepledging case on Tuesday. Phiraphan is also caretaker Science and Technology minister.

Yingluck as a private citizen is showing as little flair for the legal system as she did when she was in the administration. The stalling tactics continue, of course. No one is surprised at that. Yet her lawyers are lucky to have the evidence in their hands. They could have had it last week when Ms. Yingluck was requested to go before the NACC. They forfeited their right to the documents by her absence. They knew that. But they did it anyway. The NACC bent the rules in their favour, and now they are complaining. Great lawyers Ms. Yingluck has. Really on the ball. Let's hope they are better at her defense than she is at her facebook page. So far, though, it doesn't look like it.

She can have more time.

At the end she will be found guilty and she will be ousted.

And even her mighty brother, can't save her this time.

If he can do it, why can't she?

Is she using the "I'm trying to bring down the government" excuse too?

Lol she talks a lot of crap but she's copying her hated enemy, Suthep.

The reason can't be because she is leading the government and the country surely.

It would be the first time she claimed that as an excuse.

but with this tactic it may need months....years and Thailand is suffering.

Only difference is, she will manage to bring down the government herself, whereas Suthep has been a side-show.

The usual Red Takki supporters won't spend much time in this thread I am afraid. They are too busy preaching about double standards in other threads.

Q. And why does she need more time?

A. She did not bother going to court last week to see the evidence against her.

As the Chairperson of the pledging committee one would have thought that she had more than enough documents at hand and could put a whole stack together in a few hours. Something smells rotten, like those mountains of decaying rice.

The Science Minister is in this legal loop in what capacity? This could be second, third or fourth hand info or even from the cleaning help who picked up a inner office memo. If its not on 'facebook' how do we verify what the plan is? The spokesperson for the legal team should be approaching the committee involved, I would think, especially if the caretaker PM is paying for their services in her defense.

Soon she will have to go to Singapore to see a doctor.......

And then conduct her entire defense via facebook.

well I suppose it will take a while for them to make up a story to cover her arse, heaven forbid if she tells the truth they will put her in jail and throw away the key. They simply need more time to make all the bullsh*t come together so she can lay the blame at someone elses feet(probably suthep), pity that she has always claimed she is the leader and runs the show, it also means she has to take responsibility, dont think she ever realized that though, it would have required a bit of brain power, something she has none of.

She has more class than that.

She's probably on a state visit to inspect vegetables in The Peoples Democratic Republic of Shinawatra.

That doesn't really say much.

She'll be off on her trips abroad again soon. Back in 6 mon ths.

Personally, I don't believe she "talks" anything at all. I am of the opinion

that it is her "handlers" who prepare ALL the press releases. YL said this,

YL said that, YL proposes, YL cancels ... pleeeeeze wink.png

Give her ummmmmm........ 21 days

I think they'll claim that she didn't know about any Rice Committee meetings and that Suthep impersonated her, so he's responsible for the corruption. Just picture Suthep posing as Yingluk. No a pretty picture, or a very believable one.

Waiting for parliment to start then can't be touched.

The Ombudsman has been waiting for what? two and a half years? with the same excuse "we need more time" over the issue of a new passport to Thaksin.

No details of any documents identified as evidence have been revealed to the public. Why? Is there a "gag order" built into Thailand's judicial system that forbids disclosure of prosecution evidence to the public? Where is the transparency as to what evidence the court is reviewing as foundation for whatever ruling it makes on the charge? Thaland does not use a jury system to determine criminal guilt so what's the harm? Maybe because IF the court rules against Yingluck it does not want the public to question the foundation for its ruling that might appear arbitrary. Might hurt the Court's credibility.

Yingluck has all the evidence now. Will you complain to her about not releasing it to the public?
