Chris Tarrant has spent more than a week in hospital after suffering a mini stroke, it has emerged.

The Who Want's To Be A Millionaire? host, 67, had the stroke while on an 11-hour flight, The Sun reported.

He was rushed from Heathrow Airport to Charing Cross Hospital in West London after becoming ill on the plane and developing a potentially fatal clot in his leg.

His agent and manager Paul Vaughan told the newspaper: "The doctor describes it as a mini stroke, probably brought on by the asthma and bronchitis on the plane. They found a clot which they managed to break up.

"It was a clot in the leg and that can immediately go to the brain or the lungs."

He said that Chris has started to return to his London flat during the day but has to be back in hospital at night.

"He is determined to leave hospital. But he's not going back to work. This is a nasty wake-up call," he said.

Chris recently returned from filming a fishing show in Burma and bowed out of his world-conquering show Who Wants To Be Millionaire? last month.

It was reported last week that the star had been taken ill on the flight, from Thailand, with what was thought to be an asthma attack.
