ivan96822 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Yes, a euphimism.... Your thoughts / opinions / feedback?
Popular Post robertthebruce Posted March 15, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2014 I dont blame you, i would never admit to going there.., but to be honest i have been once, and would not set foot in the place again, not my thing, obviously its fine for some folks, but , i could honestly say i would never go back... Now i better run for cover, as i can feel the backlash about to start... 4
Popular Post HeavyDrinker Posted March 15, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2014 I think it's a bit sad that people would judge you for visiting a holiday resort... 6
Popular Post Songhua Posted March 15, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2014 I once told my missus I'd been on a work trip to Cambodia for two days ... but actually I'd only been around the corner in PatPong. 5
Popular Post I Like Thai Posted March 15, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2014 What age are you ? What are you afraid of, that you feel the need to lie like this. 12
petermik Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 What age are you ? What are you afraid of, that you feel the need to lie like this. Bored and immature I would say to put a (nothing) post of this nature on TV 2
Popular Post BKS22 Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 What's more sad is how most people think the entire city of Pattaya only consists from soi 1 down to Walking Street along beach road :-\ 4
harrycallahan Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 But there's nice golf and beaches in Hua Hin too. In fact, just about every place in Thailand has 'golf and beaches'.
Popular Post Suradit69 Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 When I Go to Pattaya, I Tell Others I am Going to Hua Hin...Yes, a euphimism.... Your thoughts / opinions / feedback? Feedback: 1. That's not how you spell euphemism. 2. Telling people you are going one place instead of where you're actually going is not so much employing a euphemism as it is an attempt at obfuscation. Either way, I doubt the "others" much care ... assuming they exist outside your imagination. 3. When you get your photo in the local newspaper under the heading of "ladyboy hiding under the bed tricks farang," your cover will be blown anyway. 13

Popular Post smokie36 Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 I take my gf to Pattaya with me...its a fun place to visit. Sure it has sleaze if you want it....and what's wrong with that? 4
Popular Post JUDAS Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 Wow. It doesn't matter where I'm actually going I always tell people I'm off to Pattaya, gotta make myself appear at least a little interesting 9
brewsterbudgen Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Rather than lie, just say you're going to "the beach" or "the coast".
Smurkster Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 there is nothing wrong with sleaze but I understand the OP's point. People tend to like to judge people by the company they keep and where they hang out.. and I don't really think that saying you are going to Hua Hin when you are really going to Pattaya qualifies as using a "Euphemism" I get the point, but I don't think it's a grammatically correct usage of the word 1
Popular Post vicio Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 Pattaya is part of a big touristic area... you can tell you go to Chonburi, Jomtien, and even Satthahip: At least they are on the same side! You can even say, that you went to Pattaya once and you will never go there (I use to say this!), but Jomtien is totally different, not like Pattaya! 3
Thaiworthy Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 For some folk in the US they're rather opinionated, so it's not just Pattaya but all of Thailand. Before I moved here I would get asked where I'm going on vacation. I'd tell the truth. Then I'd hear "Why do you need to go to a third-world country to have a good time? I certainly don't need to. Why should you?"
Popular Post lostinisaan Posted March 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2014 I always tell my friends and relatives that I go to see the Russian pianist.. 3
mamypoko Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I think it's a bit sad that people would judge you for visiting a holiday resort... Oh yes, I agree...people can be so judgmental (just read the gen. sec.)
ivan96822 Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 ^^^ What a surprise?? While you mates are contemplating my latest move, I am ensconced in a Sukhumvit Apt and aiming for Family Mart. So lets hit Club Climax & watch me monopolize this scene... 1
godden Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Time to come out of the closet, whats your name purvey pete.
tubby johnson Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Pattaya is the City of Love .... nothing to be ashamed of.
DLP Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 What is wrong with Pattaya, or should i say why is Hua Hin better than Pattaya
thailandist Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 If you are ashamed you shouldn't be going in the first place. You must do some horrible things there if you can't even be honest with your friends about going.
pwills Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 A while ago my daughter and I were enjoying a meal together, she was down for a long weekend and she got really upset and wanted to leave I asked her why and she told me someone insinuated that I had come to here from Pattaya, apparently it.s a Thai euphynism for a generally undesirable person of dubious character. 1

She's a prude. HiSo Thais visit Pattaya strip clubs because it's where the party people are. 1
duanebigsby Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Pattaya is the City of Love .... nothing to be ashamed of. City of love? No...City of whores, yes. whatever floats your boat but I came to Thailand for other reasons.
recycler Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I know people who live in Pattaya and go to Hua Hin to <deleted> around Facilities are similar on both sides of the gulf, the scale differs a bit.
Gillyflower Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 An euphemism is a 'nice way of saying something nasty'. e.g. ' He passed away' instead of ' he died'. He ended his life instead of committing suicide. He died after a long illness instead of.......... I don't know,, perhaps Hua Hin is an euphemism for Pattaya.
shaurene Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Why are you ashamed to admit you are going to Pattaya. I live in Khon Kaen my wife and I go down about every 2 months for a week. We always stay in a 4 star we go to a bar called The Katseree I see many old friends falangs have a good beer and chat we love it, we go every where together. Don't be such a stuck up. 1
