I have a 12-month contract in Thailand. It is highly unlikely that it will be extended beyond 12 months

The car is a must for my type of work. What kind of options do I have?

1. Rent via Avis, Hertz for 700$ a month with insurance

2. Buy a new one, say, Toyota Vios for 20K and sell it in a year for 16K

3. Import my car from Canada. Has anybody done that btw?

4. Or take Toyota Vios back to Canada and convert it to left side?

5. Other options???

Does anybody know cost of importing car from Canada?

Forget about importing a car, costs too much.

You can buy a new car or a second hand car. Often a new car comes with 1 year insurance and if a pick-up you get a good price for it when selling.

But also look into a nice second hand with "Toyota sure" for example, gives you some security.

I was looking at Toyota Hilux Vigo today: 27K with discount, free maintenance, and insurance for one year. I didn't know anything about "Toyota Sure" thing. I will find out tomorrow then. Some people advised to stay away from second hand card in Thailand. Thanks

Mate, just ordered a new vios, 600,000 baht, great care to drive and I am a big person and it is comfortable front and back, comes with heaps of extras for nothing and 12 months top insurance plus a full tank of fuel.Cant go wrong with a deal like toyota are giving at the moment.

I got one of these new model Toyota Vios last June/July time, it was about about the same price. I've only done a few thousand KM's on it but it's had no problems.

Buy new Toyota/Honda to hold price, other makes less so. If you had a Vios for a year for instance you'd probably get back 80-90% & could sell back to dealer. Toyota are better for offering insurance and freebies.

Rental would work out at least double.

2nd hand = rip & tougher to sell on+ you need to really know the market.

Forget importing.

Just out of curiosity where will you be working? If it's Bangkok I would bypass the car all together unless it's on the outside of the city. I would rent or have your company rent for you.
