But other top leaders of Pheu Thai Party adamantly dismissed the allegation. Mr. Noppadol Pattama, legal adviser and a close aide to Mr. Thaksin, said he has talked to the former leader earlier this morning on phone, and he was assured that Mr. Thaksin had no intention to remove his sister from the position.

When former-PM Thaksin's own legal adviser says, as he did in as many words, that Thaksin himself is the sole person who decides who will be P.M. here, then for once I believe him.

"However, when reporters asked Ms. Yingluck as she arrived at the Office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence - where her temporary office is housed, whether she will step down from politics in some way, the Prime Minister refused to provide any reply and excused herself from the journalist crowd."

And the no-longer-a-newbie-caretaker-PM, showing true leadership and decision, refuses to comment & does a runner (or a hobble), once again ? At least she's consistent ! laugh.png

I wonder how caretaker-FM Surapong will try to spin this, to the world's governments, how he can possibly claim this as a functioning democracy beats me ! wink.png

Yay for Red Democracy ! facepalm.gif

Got a problem with "According to a number of media reports" and "due to un-named sources" and "it is our opinion" etc. etc. This is media manipulation to the extreme. If there are non-credible sources, and especially if such "sources" are non-existent and just made up to sell news media. Need to spell out facts and not speculate.

As a side note, the ThaiVisa posts, and this is not meant to offend anyone and take sides, should be kind and not cruel, like has happened with these anti-government and pro-government supporters. Saying things like "She will not step down, just hide" or "The last time Yingluck stepped down she tore a ligament" or "Is that a Burberry wheelchair?" is just not nice, civilized and being a decent person. Regardless of what one thinks of Yingluck or any other person, kindness and understanding for another person's situation in life is suggested, as Buddha and many others would also suggest. Such derogatory words do not foster peace and the enjoyment in life, but just support a more fractured society. Just a suggestion for your consideration.

I think that there's no stopping the voter desertions from the Thaksin camp now. Pheu Thai's fragile veneer of plausibility has all but rubbed off with the rice pledging, first-time car buyer and other fiscal debacles. Re-reading Jeffrey Race's rather excellent article, there's no denying that Thaksin introduced populism to Thai politics but even the most ardent of red shirts are now aware that their vote was just a manipulation, a means to an end and their usefulness now lies elsewhere. They have been empowered and that won't be taken away.

As an outsider (aren't most of us here?) I long considered that, 'the Thai people get what they deserve' with their long suborned acceptance that people in power act that way because they have some blessed right to do so. But now I would suggest that even the old status quo of knowing when to 'move away from the trough' is being challenged through a greater awareness of their intrinsic worth by an enlightened, burgeoning middle class and their similarly wary rural brothers and sisters. Otherwise how can one explain the enduring limbo that prevails months after a failed election, where those so thoroughly despising Thaksin have not exactly rushed to embrace the 'alternative middle way' offered by Suthep, much to his and his benefactors chagrin.

Unfortunately, this indecision has been fundamentally misread by the Thaksin camp as some form of lingering endorsement of their rule... but they started misreading (and misleading) the public right after that same public gave them their first mandate to rule.

The next puppet will need more than strings, she will need mooring ropes, if you get my drift.giggle.gif
