The water truck flipped on the Heroines-Baan Manik Rd.

PHUKET: -- What was supposed to be a fun day out yesterday (March 30) for a municipal water truck driver and his pals turned into disaster when he flipped the truck onto its roof.

When police and rescue workers arrived at the scene, on the Heroines-Baan Manik Rd, they found Worrawut Songyot, Mayor of Srisoonthorn Municipality – which owns the truck – already there and quizzing Surisot Jaidee as to how he came to be driving the water truck on his day off.

Also at the scene were two of Surisot’s friends, Sommai Sae-Ku and Tiwa Buasawat, who were banged about in the accident, but not badly hurt.

Surisot said that he was driving from the Heroines monument to Baan Manik. The tank had some water in it, he explained, and when he hit a bend in the road the water sloshed to one side, shifting the centre of gravity and causing the truck to roll over.

Police have charged him with careless driving causing damage to state property.

Bullshit. You were driving too fast. All water and fuel trucks have baffles inside to keep just that sort of thing from happening.Without them they would be impossible to keep under control.

Not all have baffles.

So only safe if full or empty.

Tankers are not easy to drive. I would rather drive with a full load than half a load. Even with baffle walls inside the liquid still affects the dynamics of motion. I drove Hauler tankers, semi tankers and scraper tankers and each has it's own set of hazards. If you are good at it, you never get away from them...... I rarely got to drive anything else cause I never crashed a tanker.
