Can't believe what I am seeing today at Jomtien beach.

Hundreds of people in the water and jetskis and speed boats cutting through swimmers and kids on rubber rings.

One idiot in a 25 ft boat traveling at speed has come within a meter of people twice and considering his position in the boat it is impossible for him to see what is in front of him in the water!

Hard to believe the police don't get their finger out and do something before someone gets killed, then again maybe not, no money in it for them...

Who are you calling stupid? The Boaters or the tourists who let their children swim in the water knowing there are boats coming in to pick up the same tourists who are letting their children play in the water where the boats are coming in to pick up more tourists.

Same same, but different

Yet another Thai bashing thread.

As if the same doesn't happen in holiday resorts around the world.

OP is this your first beach holiday?

I don't think it can be classed as a Thai bashing thread yet, maybe an attempt to create one, but give it time, I am sure you will be proven right.

Hopefully it will be defended, then just wait for the 'Thai Apologists', shout to ring out like a bunch of demented slip fielders in the hope of a nick from a beleaguered batsman. laugh.png

As it happens in Thailand the poster is stating a fact on a public Forum , Not Thai bashing as you say.

Again, may I challenge, who are the idiots, the boaters or the swimmers?

Personal safety is not a big deal for Thais. Yeah, they'll say that it is but what farangs consider safe is not for them.

The boaters win IMHO, they have plenty of sea to go, while the swimmers normally swim close to the beach.

That of course assuming the boaters have a brain.coffee1.gif

From a boaters perspective theres 2 options.

Avoid the kids and lose money.

Drive through the kids and get paid.

Theres also 2 outcomes.

Accidently kill someone as they get wrapped up in the propeller, still get paid, no criminal offence commited.

Wait in the sea and not be able to get passengers, go home and try to explain to the wife why there is no food on the table floor.

Are there areas cordoned off for swimming on Jomtien Beach?

If you see people acting supposedly recklessly, are you drawn toward them, or do find somewhere else?

It is always someone else's fault, take responsibility for your child, in time because you are of limited intelligence, they will take care of you.

Yeah I agree with that, as I posted above there is also the perspective of the farang parent and the outcomes...cant be arsed typing that out.

I know for a fact I wouldn't be letting my kids, if I had any swim in that area. A lot of parents these days just don't seem to care about their children anyway.

Here we go again : Change countries , it happens everywhere. Here is a question for those who have been to holiday resorts around the world :

Is the level of recklessness noted in the OP really the same in other countries as the recklessness seen in Thailand ?

And yes, there are well sealed areas where you are safe from boats and jet skis.

(with the new "ponton" style floaters)

Well the point is Hedgehog it doesn't happen in most holiday resorts around the world because the authorities do their job of separating people and the operators are forced by laws that are policed and upheld to be far more responsible than is evident here.

I live on this road so see it everyday. It does amaze me how many children (sorry to say but almost exclusively Thai) are allowed to play in the water where the jetski's and boats come and not 5 metres from the cordoned off safe area. The parents stay in the shade.

Something wrong with you?

Thai bashing, what are you talking about?

An observation that people are behaving in a dangerous and unreasonable way is Thai bashing because?

...and it does t happen on beaches around the world, most European beaches have a designated area for boats and jetskis to collect people away from swimmers.

Is this your 1st beach holiday?

Incorrect they is a third and common sense option, have a designated corridor for boasts and jetskis to collect and drop off customers and a minimum distance set that the boats and skis can come to the beach.

To get customers have sales people on the beach punting the trips/sessions etc.

Everyone safe and the boat guy gets paid.

What hate?

An observation is hatred?

Some bizarre and contrary people on this forum...

The idiots are 3 fold, police, swimmers and ski/boat drivers.

Sorry 4 idiots, forgot about you.

Jomtien also has designated areas for boats and Jetski's etc. The problem is caused by people swimming in this designated area and not staying in the large boomed off areas for swimmers.

Exactly more likely tourist stupidity.

What about the thread on all the people killed on the roads over Songkran. Is that a Thai bashing thread?

Regardless of the money, it would be un-Thai for a police officer to intervene unless someone is actually injured/killed.

Kirsty McColl (fayre tale of new york with The Pogues) died in an exclusive resort due to the same problem.

If you think the sea is dangerous swim in the pool.

the thread has very bad feelings expressed.

these are the same people who ride three on a scooter with a newborn, while texting and eating,

they are wrong to operate unsafely where there are children,

until you report people getting killed, this is their way of life,

anyone who has seen the 2 year old holding on to the scooter like an old pro, without eye protection, will attest to this,

assuming they live

Yes, and well justified, and there are also some Farangs with the same lack of brains.
