Either not an emergency landing or the problem was not with the landing gear.

Transparency please.

"PRECAUTIONARY LDG"

But would that have made the news? Probably not.

Bon voyage

Fritzz

Yep, gotta spice it up to make people read it vs. just talking about squirt guns and wet tshirts for 7 days. coffee1.gif

Also telling of the readership in the instant info age, where even news from yesterday is unacceptable.

Probably a light locked sign malfunction , indicating the under carriage had a fault, maybe not locked in the up position light, the proper procedure was carried out, as with all airlines , these things are deemed an emergency till the problem is rectified. If the pilot got a positive down position lock in, he wouldn't need to go around and be checked from the ground, to land.

I'm glad we have you to add pilot's narrative to the story... otherwise we wouldn't have a clue

about problems with the landing gears.... :-)

Having to return to the airport after taking off is never fun, because all sorts of thoughts starts to form in your mind, when you are up in the air.

Tried it once where the plane had problems with it's radars and the pilots had to circle around for several hours to spend fuel before the plane was light enough to land again and it's not to fun.

Good to hear that nothing happened with Thai plane and everyone returned safely to Bangkok.

Off course it's not a perfect for the passengers that has to take another plane to Samui and arrive later than planned, but i hoped everyone arrived well and is enjoying their vacation now.

LOL, on any given day a large airline experiences some mechanical issues.

The plane returned to BKK because that is the SOP. This is because;

- Longer runway at BKK

- Better access to emergency services

- Better able to rebook pax

- If there was a problem due to a burst tire or electrical issue, the plane is expected to get back down asap and not to fly on.

Hey guys, From the airline guy again: This is what the industry refers to as an "air return". It is a daily event somewherea nd it can happen for a number of non emergency reasons. If the gear indicators did not show the gear, retracted, or the doors not closed that would be a possible reason. The 737-400 might be a good candidate for retirement for efficency reasons, but not safety. Please relax and reduce the hyperbole. If you do not understand an incident like this ask.

Cheers,

Lou

Thanks for the clarification. From watching dozens of episodes of "Air Disaster" I was under the impression that declaring an "emergency" simply gave the pilot first priority in landing and scrambling the necessary ground resources to deal with whatever the aircraft may need on arrival.

If that is, in fact, the case I salute them for taking the appropriate steps, even if it turned out to be a safe return. Better to have too many resources mobilized than not have the one you may need.

3 greens always a welcome sight with under-cart red when locked up!

Never understand why a lot of Thais think Airasia is no good, personally I think they have the best fleet of planes in Asia and Thai Airways have a lot of old stock.

Thai Airways have had their fair share of incidents as well, whereas I can't recall any from Airasia.

737-4's cannot land at Samui.....737-2's are the usual 'planes I believe
