Elephant injures one tourist over the Songkran Festival

CHIANG RAI, 14 April 2014 (NNT) - The Chiang Rai Provincial Police along with the patrol police went down to Chiang Rai Beach to check on a tourist who has been injured as a result of an elephant attack.

Police officers have identified the victim as 18 year-old Rojana Saengthong, who was then quickly rushed to the hospital. The victim’s friend and the mahout of the elephant that attacked her were also at the scene awaiting further questioning from the police.

The victim’s friend revealed that as Ms. Rojana was going to pick up a swim ring, one of the elephants panicked and kicked her in the thigh.

At this point, the police have taken the mahout into custody to interrogate him further and to investigate whether he has a valid license in owning these elephants.

In addition, the police have seized all the elephants to prevent them from harming other tourists.

Will all the elephants be placed in police vans and be taken to the police cells while further investigations continue. ?

Chiang Rai Beach?

I've actually been to that little beach area before, it's on the shores of the Lao River and lots of locals go there to swim or hang out.

Nice place!

I wish the police luck in questioning the elephant, also in getting it to stand still, for the customary photo of the re-enactment. rolleyes.gif

Hope the young lady recovers fully & quickly.

Where's the pic of the policeman pointing at the accused?

She must have been very close to the elephant to get kicked, and behind or under it or it would have whacked her with its trunk instead.

Didn't know you needed a license to drive an elephant.

Yes you do.

If the police pull you over you can tell them your license is in the trunk!

Chiang Rai Beach???????crazy.gif

Was wondering about that myself. Appears they have a spot called Chiang Rai Beach on the Kok River. I would call it a sandbar myself. smile.png

More than that.....we have a river beach called Pattaya Beach here.....

Thai police 'seizing" the elephants is obviously an unchecked news item and Thai news scam.

All the elephants have been seized?

I'd like to see the charges smile.png

Breaking News:

Angry elephants destroy Chiang Rai jail - hundreds of prisoners escape in the confusion.

The elephant comes from a wealthy family, nothing will come of it.

Dummies. Everyone knows not to take an elephant's swim ring!

Oh stop it... please. My sides are aching & I can't stop laughing. Best post ever.

Who says you need alcohol for fun & entertainment...... All you need is TV.

They were allowed one trunk call each.

Guess they will do the same like in Pattaya when every now and then they "seize" a lot of hookers and/or katoeys from beach road, drop them in several pickups and drive them to the police station... and after a couple of hours they release them... must be a pretty view to see those elephants in the back of those pickups... biggrin.pngcheesy.gifblink.pnglaugh.png

...one requires a permit, etc to drive a car.....

...one would think there are fewer elephants than cars around....

...so shouldn't the permits, etc., be sorted out well before any such incident....???

Just hope the Elephants do not panic and stampede when the police do the finger point thing for the cameras.facepalm.gifblink.png
