AC/DC to split: report
Caroline Zielinski

AC/DC may be announcing their retirement as soon as Tuesday, according to media reports. The famous rock band, which formed in 1973, is one of the most popular and highest-grossing bands of all time.

Entertainment commentator Peter Ford told radio station 3AW on Tuesday morning that after last year's talk of a tour, nothing has been announced since.

"The suggestion is being put to me that tour will never happen and we will never see AC/DC perform again or record again," he said.

AC/DC’s 40th anniversary tour under doubt due to health concerns

The greatest band ever to come out of Australia. Will be missed 40 years is a long time at the top.

Personally think the noteworthy tunes by both INXS and Men at Work are over and above anything those guys have managed to churn out, which, let's face it, is generally just noise. But each to their own, I spose. ;)

Whichever way you slice it, like them or lump them, 40yrs in the business, a recognizable style for 3 or more generations, they have something that other bands can only dream of. I am a mediocre fan, mostly their singles and anthem songs, but I still will miss the fact that they are not around. There just is not the talent around to replace these rock legends. You think Eminen is going to be squiggling angry little rhymes about his mum 40yr from now? If he is then he's just sad. A tragic start for AC/DC, a great career made, heap praise and crank up the volume. For those about to Retire, we salute you!

Great Band and Bon Scott was integral to it. Never could take to the screaming Geordie. Still plenty of people did, so that shows we all have different tastes.

It's interesting how most of Australia's top hard rock acts of that era tended to be thoroughly Glaswegian (ok, Brian Johnson was a Geordie).

Homegrown Aussie acts tended to have a sunnier and lighter outlook on life.

AC/DC made it globally, but Cold Chisel never did; I wonder how it would have worked if Jimmy Barnes had taken over from Bon Scott.....

Sounds more Scottish to me.

Great band apart from the annoying little guy that wore the school uniform.

They annoying little guy in the school uniform is the main musical influence on their music, and the school uniform bit is intended as a piss take
