BANGKOK - The International Parliamentary Union (IPU) has expressed its concern over the ongoing investigation against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, a Pheu Thai official said.

Ms. Jarupan Kuldilok, a former Pheu Thai MP, said in a press conference that the IPU's move followed Pheu Thai's complaint to the agency, requesting the IPU to respond to an inquiry by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) into Ms. Yingluck's controversial rice pledging scheme.

Pro-government supporters accuse the NACC of conspiring with anti-government movements and intending to suspend Ms. Yingluck from her caretaker position.

Ms. Jarupan said Pheu Thai Party has also complained to the IPU about the NACC's effort to strip 308 MPs and Senators who voted in favour of the decision to amend the 2007 Constitution. The amendment has been struck down as unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court, and the NACC has subsequently launched an inquiry into the 308 politicians, accusing them of participating in unconstitutional actions.

According to Ms. Jarupan, the IPU has responded to these complaints by sending a "warning notice" to the Thai authorities, reminding them that Thailand is obliged to respect rule of laws and civil rights under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, though Ms. Jarupan did not specifically mention which agencies the statement were sent to.

"Various international organisations such as the IPU, the United Nations, and other foreign governments are monitoring the behaviour of a so-called independent agency who wields a power equivalent to the court like NACC," Ms. Jarupan said, adding that any Thai official found guilty of violating the ICCPR or any other rights-related international treaty might find themselves blacklisted by the global community.

Ms. Jarupan also stressed that although the IPU does not wield any real power over the Thai authorities, Thailand is obliged to comply to international treaties which guarantee the rule of laws and fair trials.

Another former Pheu Thai MP, Ms. Phuwanida Khunpalin, explained that Pheu Thai's complaint to the IPU is a legitimate exercise of parliamentarians' rights to seek assistance from international bodies concerning the alleged injustice they have faced from the Thai legal system.

PTP might next want to consider an appeal to the various religous groups around the world, they seem to have sympathy for the stray mutts of the human specie.

Most people learn early in life, not to hang your dirty laundry out for all to see. But when you blame anything/one not directly involved in the messes you have created, it can be expected.

They are on the loosing side slowly slipping and they know it.

The IPU sent out a warning notice , according to Ms Jarupan, is that a threat, warning judges of their obligations , intimidation , a gentle reminder of how it should be , slow learners where the law is concerned, this crowd is alsobah.gif

wouldnt they need the truth to be able to do that and we all know the truth and the ptp are simply not in the same world. They also have no jurisdiction in Thailand and therefore have no authority to do anything, have to wonder if there was a thick envelope sent along with the original letter to get them onside. Just goes to show how despertre ptp are becoming, ipu and then thaksin this weekend, what a bunch of losers.

I personally would not attach too much credibility to the Khaosod article. When one views the website of the I.P.U. and its latest news section it would seem as if there isn't it seems a great deal going on and perhaps the truth of the Khaosod article could be more in line with a chapter from ''Thaksin in Plunderland,''

New and old human rights abuses come before IPU Human Rights Committee

13 July 2012.
New cases on the
human rights violations
of MPs around the world as well as entrenched on-going ones will be the focus of next week’s meeting of the IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians. The Committee, meeting in Geneva between 20-23 July, will examine and take decisions on next steps on several new cases involving the alleged intimidation, attacks, wrongful and politically motivated arrests or disqualification of MPs that have emerged in recent months. It will also examine on-going public and confidential cases. Among those that are public knowledge include Anwar Ibrahim in Malaysia, Birgitta Jonsdottir in Iceland and Sam Rainsy in Cambodia. The on-going detention of nearly 20 per cent of Palestinian MPs, the lack of developments in Rwanda as well as some positive news in Burundi will also feature during the four-day meeting. The IPU Committee, which will elect a new president to follow the presidency of Belgian Senator Philippe Mahoux, will revise its working methods in a bid to yield more results on the more than 200 cases it currently deals with. This includes more field visits and the greater involvement of the IPU membership in addressing human rights violations of parliamentarians in their countries.

It appears that PTP has shot themselves in the foot again. And a little double speak by Ms. Jarupan saying the warning notice was sent to agencies, not Thai authorities. You can bet your last beer that if the notice was sent to the NACC, that would have been one of the first things she revealed.

I must confess I'd never heard of the IPU. I doubt many at PT Central had either but any port in a storm.

Thailand. Hub of new acronyms ... created to divert attention. thumbsup.gif

This is Thailandland and Thai affair.

How on earth will IPU understand?

Even Farang don't understand Thai's domestic problem.

Could the "warning notice" have been sent to the PT party and their coalition partners ?

Would seem most likely as they are the ones who have broken the most laws and shown continual disrespect for the courts and civil rights of the people.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Notice however the secrecy behind this. A document from an official, however obscure agency that according to Jatuporn defends the PTP and gives the "Authorities" a warning notice , but he refuses to shops anyone the letter and won't mention names or agencies it refers too. So what is the point of the IPU sending a warning letter to the agencies if the PTP refuse to pass that warning on. UNLESS of course it is not real.

Sounds a bit like thaksin stating in a Skype address last year to red shirts that a person named "app" from the NACC asked for a bribe to clear thaksins name. I knew it was not true, the PTP knew it was not true, the DEM's knew it was not true, the NACC knew it was not true, but it planted a seed in the gullible's minds. The UDD supporters in the Northn and North East. Being true was beside the point, it had to be said to sway belief. Facts were not required. Beliefs were. To the and the UDD beliefs override facts.

Belief is this letter denounces the "authorities" facts are this letter is not presented for verification.

Dear IPU, the Thai NACC has decided to investigate the rampant corruption that my government is known for, however I had told them not to use the law against me.

Please help,Thank you 3 times.

This is getting preposterous. Here again we have a Khaosod " story " that is completed propped up by Pheu Thai. Only Pheu Thai spokespersons are interviewed. All the narrative and information care of your friendly neighbourhood Pheu Thai, with extra Khaosod flourishes, just in case the " journalistic " manipulations aren't quite blatant enough. So what's all behind this ? Well, it seems that in addition to complaining to the UN and the United States, Pheu Thai is now complaining to an agency almost nobody has heard about, with the narrative that the NACC is not independent - a concept that is naturally enthusiastically adopted by Khaosod as self-evident, and in no need of formal rebuttal. That's the story. Put in a couple of crazy Pheu Thai spokespersons and you've got your omelette.

Scamper... mate now do not take this the wrong way. But more posts like this from you would be fantastic. And it this by the way is about the maximum length of a paragraph, just for your reference.

Cause man, you really need to break your stuff up into bite size chunks for people like me with a short attention span.

Also, I agree with almost everything you say, when it is lucid at least :)

Cheers

I wonder what the IPU thinks, about the way PTP has been using the DSI to pursue & pressure former-PM Abhisit, do you think PTP might consider asking them ?

Or is it better to sweep that particular one under-the-carpet ? wink.png

Very much like the letter that was "sent from the American government"

One day some one will contact these governments and agencies and ask them to confirm or repudiate them in writing

Posted

Has PTP contacted PETA yet?

More likely the other way round.

Yeah, on second thought, it's hard to think of PTP contacting anybody who has the word "ethical" in their name.

Put some PT misapprehension of the IPU warning, add some Khaosod spin, and you have this article. Reverse engineer it and you have the IPU suggesting to YL that she had better follow the rule of law as imposed by the courts.

The Thais have areputation for not caring what the outside worls thinks, that's if the outside world actually exixits.

I can't help but notice that recently the government and PTP have been invoking many aspects of the outside world to justify their cause.
