Hezbollah-linked suspects may be deported

BANGKOK: -- Information from three foreign suspects held in connection with an Israeli tip-off has led to the discovery of hazardous items, National Police Commissioner General Adul Saengsingkaew said yesterday.

"But at this point, it remains inconclusive as to whether these items were to be used in staging attacks in Thailand," Adul said. "We are investigating the case."

He did not reveal what the hazardous items were.

The three suspects, identified as Yosef Ayad, Daoud Rafarhat and Bilal Bahsoun, are in police custody.

"At this point, we still have not found any link to anyone else," Adul said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a member of the investigation team said the three foreigners had given confusing statements and relevant authorities were still in the process of establishing their country of origin.

"We expect to contact relevant embassies to push for their deportation next week," the source said.

According to this source, there is no evidence that can link the three suspects to Lebanese national Atris Hussein, who was sentenced to two years and four months in jail for stocking bomb-making materials.

It is widely speculated that Hussein and the three suspects now in police custody may have been members of Hezbollah.

Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) spokesman Colonel Banphot Phunphian yesterday said no available evidence confirmed that the foreign suspects in police custody were members of Hezbollah.

"And even if they are, Hezbollah is described as an international terrorist organisation by the United States and Israel only," he said. He noted that Lebanon recognised Hezbollah as a political party.

Banphot also believed Thailand would not be a direct target of terrorists given that the Kingdom has never had any ideological conflict with anyone.

Still, he did not rule out the possibility of a terror attack happening in this country.

"It's possible, because so many countries have established embassies or consulates here. Some countries are in conflict with other groups," Banphot said.

Whilst the political wing of Hezbollah is not banned in a number of countries, the armed wing is banned as a terrorist group. The armed wing continues to be supported by Iran and Syria as State sponsors of terrorism. It's stange Thai authorities have not referenced this fact in relation to this incident; may be a political/national security decision in order to minimise Thai institutions and people as potential future targets.

If the law is such that a group of people can enter Thailand, secure hazardous items, ship them to another country to be used in terrorists attacks, and the only recourse is deportation of these people, this law needs to be amended. This group will simply go to another country and do the same thing.

Quite possible you are correct and if so this would border on complicity in my opinion.

in other words, there is no proof of anything, they may be members of Hezbollah, but that is not illegal in Thailand anyway. Zionist claptrap

Why do the police or security officials need to release such information now such that it would disrupt an ongoing investigation? It is inappropriate for evidence to be released at this stage.

What we do know is that the 3 are in Thailand illegally and entered under false pre tense. It is also established that the 3 are members of Hizbollah. Hizbollah is actively supporting the barbaric and savage Assad regime and are currently participants in the Syrian civil war. Hizbollah is under international sanction for that activity. Thailand has a legal obligation to respect those UN sanctions. The countries who asked for those sanctions were Arab. I don't think they are big zionists. However, don't let your hatred for Israel get in the way of blaming Israel because 3 terrorists were stopped before they could murder people.

There is plenty of proof they confessed they intended to kill Israelis and other tourists according to Bangkok post.

If they are here illegally, they have confessed that they intend to kill people, they were caught with inappropriate material (can only assume it was for weapons or bombs, but do not know) then there are laws broken. Are you telling me just shipping them away so they can carry on their work is the right thing to do? If they were in a country where your children were, how would you feel? Terrorist + bombs usually mean marketplaces, crowds of innocents who are targeted by these cowards. These 3 should be identified first, as they mentioned they were not even sure of their nationality. Is Thailand afraid of getting in the middle of something and don't want to get on terrorists bad side? I'm think there is a problem already and that the passport fraud is only the tip of the iceberg. If Thailand turns their heads and let them go if they are found guilty, then they will only find the problem worse and gain the reputation of a safe haven, if they haven't already.

So they confessed to having bombs and intending to kill people, but not to what nationality they are? Maybe they are from the Icelandic branch of Hezbollah ! I would prefer my children to be around the brave fighters of Hezbollah than Mossad hitmen. Try not to be taken in by the media. Research !

You and your children don't have to choose sides or aggrandize one side or the other. Why would you?

hard124nogets LOL ?? You should be on the stage with that razor sharp wit. How do you know there is plenty of proof? The detainees at Gitmo confessed too. Thai police always seem to get full confessions. Why do you think that might be? Stay away from Fox News , it is brainwashing you !

Pathetic, ridiculous. Hope your kids aren't nearby when fanatics of Hezbollah set off a bomb in a public place. You'd probably still blame it on "Zionists."
