Where to take a date for dinner and drinks in Bangkok?

If this is a first date then no way should you be planning to spend that much.

Never blow cash on Thai girls.

Take her to a normal Thai restaurant and spend 500 Baht max. Encourage her to pay her share.

If she doesn't like it, tell her to bugger off.

Natorn restaurant on / in meng jai junction.

You sit around a huge pond, the food is spot on, priced for Thai diners, quiet Thai style live musicians ( background ) .. It's pretty impressive for a special evening.

I was at baan rai in the week, it was too busy, bit pricey and out of your way too.

I made the mistake of taking a girl to a restaurant and spend a month wages for the meal - a month at her wage rate. Do you realize how bad that is? When we were done - it was the last time i saw her - she said if you can spend that type of money on a meal then give me the same amount you fool. In Russia, where i lived for a year, a pretty woman (and poor at that) would say - oh, not at that very, very expensive restaurant. I am tired of going there. Yes, that is real. They get taken all the time but never given any money.

My Russia wife would pick up the tip after our meals - she thought Iike the waitress more than her.

I know where I would take her - I would ask her and throw in a few suggestions.

Rim Nam restaurant on Phrapadeang. Sit on the deck and watch the ships go up or down the river. Not overtly romantic but a "different" place.

When I say ships I mean ships and not boats, the ones coming downstream appear to head straight for the restaurant and then turn at the last minute.

I guess OP is not your ordinary 'teach English to remain in Thailand' teacher with a budget like that biggrin.png

Does OP also wish to get to all bases, or just dinner and talk?

OP should follow the advice of some posters: go to normal but decent places, not overcrowded with foreigners, don't spend more than 600 or 700 on dinner for both of you.

Don't spend an amount of money that takes her 2 weeks to earn.

Find a nice place after dinner where he can actually make conversation with the girl, not some place with loud music (which is almost everywhere anyway).

The girl will feel uncomfortable when you don't understand what she says, thinking it is her English skill, instead of the loud music.

I agree with Morakot OP....take her to the Moon Bar/Vertigo at the Banyan for

drinks & dinner. Stop by the place beforhand to see if their prices match

your budget as it can be pricey there. I dropped 10K there for drinks & dinner

with my missus at the start of this year...to us it was worth every satang.

I also agree with what some other replies have stated...have fun with that.

However....if you find it all a bit confusing....

The main thing is....go have fun...Sanuk!

I think the OP should wise up and not spent excessive amounts of money, unless he or his benefactors are minted.

I beg to differ , loads of my mates ( Thai ) either share or pay, it's not just one way,

I really hate to do this because of the TV collective knowledge that Thais are poor, cheap, ungenerous, gouging, spiteful, xenophobic and mean (my apologies to all you fellows if I missed yours, there). I like your post a lot, because it shows you have actual Thai acquaintances and friends and observe what's going on in Thailand.

On the other hand, however...

The OP is talking about a (first) date, which does not equal mate. The OP describes it as an actual date, where he asked a woman out. She does not expect to pay, really she doesn't. She will not be impressed with the matey-ness of it all, if asked to pay. From the first date on, she might even offer to pay. But this time, add up all the circs, and she's not expecting to pick up half the bill. If she has to pay her way, then the whole idea of a first-date acquaintanceship is over and the whole thing was a bad idea.

KFC "Chicken Jujai" set > 6 pieces fried chicken, 3 pieces chicken wings, 3 chicken nuggets, 1 mashed potato and pepsi = 299 baht

A night out in a good Thai restaurant and drinks in a byob (with a Thai whisky) club with live music should cost you less than half your stated maxium budget. Don't try to impress her with cash--two reasons, 1) as an English teacher, you can't maintain it and 2) if she isn't a bar girl you should not need or want to impress her with cash.

If you wish to keep it cheaper and a little more Thai try some of the restaurants on Naradhiwas, seem to be popular with locals.. Some to name are Sortrel or Sleep Around.. Open air or closed and air conditioned with Thai bands playing a bit of music..

Very good choices. Sortrel's busy (but not annoyingly so) with student types- Sleep Around is a bit quieter (and nicer in my opinion)- both do good food, nice enough to be romantic, but still pretty cheap. And in Sortrel you can draw on the paper tablemat with the crayons provided, which always a good icebreaker.

Sorry forgot to say that it is a first date. 3000-4000 is my maximum budget. Ideally I would like to spend less.

Blowing large amounts of cash early on sets a precedent you may not be able to sustain.

Yeah good point thanks casualposter. Let's say somewhere between 1000-2000 for dinner and drinks. I can sink quite a few drinks so I need to take that into account if we go for more after dinner.

Not a nice impression to give on a first date.

I used to enjoy KFC mashed potatoes, but I don't think they sell them anymore.

Well ,as a gentleman , ask her what she would like to eat Thai or Farang food.....If your seriously courting her ,don't try to get her to pay half, some guys on here definitely giving bad advice ,that's why they are still stag ,when they go out!

There's a difference between not being able to afford something and just a Cheap person !

I think Bourbon St. which has moved from Washington Sq.to :

9/39-40 Soi 63 Tana Arcade, Soi 63 Sukhumvit (Ekamai BTS), Bangkok 10110, Thailand
+66 2 381 6801

Ask if Doug is around tell him Big Bill sent you ,I helped create some of the food there back in 1988 , and its a nice place for a date as, I remember. So the new place should be too !

Just remember there's a difference between liking and wanting a relationship with a woman and only trying to get Laid !

But also remember that women all over the world do have that one thing in common: and when its that time of the month it can be strange sometimes , so try to avoid dating at those times !

The café at Chao Phraya 2 on Sri Ayudhya always used to work like a charm with the cloistered 'sao office' of modest means. Seems that without a farang to escort them inside, such places were an absolute mystery to them. They all got off on the thrill of being inside such a place. Used to have the best tord mun gung in the city too. If she farked off you didn't have far to go for comforting words about the 'hiso bah'

I agree to keep it simple and Thai, mostly not to freak her out and to keep her in her confort zone.

My favorite used to be meeting in Lumpini park and then heading to Naratiwas as metioned above, with the adition of Dao Deng across the road, near the Honda dealership for full on Thai after diner live bands.

You can forget Lumpini park now bah.gif

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. Some really good ideas. I'll definitely be going to some of the places on future dates.

I did ask her where she wanted to go but I got the usual "up to you". In the end I have decided to just meet here at the Mall Bangkapi and go to MK, BBQ or somewhere similar. After that we will head to RCA for a few drinks. She seems really happy with this. It's close to home for her and well within her comfort zone. She's brining a friend along which I half expected.

I'll let you know how it goes. The date isn't until Saturday.

Thank you TV members. You never disappoint!

Ha! Aim to spend MUCH less.

Blowing large amounts of cash early on sets a precedent you may not be able to sustain.

Go to a fairly quiet place where you can chat and get to know each other. There are some good Thai restaurants around Petchaburi Road (sois 5-7).

Have a nice time.

given that that is an average night out for me, i hardly see how it is blowing money on a woman.

try above 11 great views can be intimate, food not too shabby. i personally like it because i live next door and its not too far to hop into bed when all goes well.

Bella Napoli pizza can be ok with lotsa wine especially if you know the manager, thou 4k may be a push there. limoncello, banyan tree, perhaps a bit minty for you

Ask her where she wants to go, it's her town, how should you know? If it comes to it, Baan Khanitha, Sukhumvit Soi 53, Thong Lor BTS (exit 1) is the best seafood restaurant in town and in budget. Mainly full of Thai businessmen when I've been there.

cant see the reason for this thread: interested thai girls or their mother will come out with "Do you want a wife" within seconds of first laying eyes on you,

else theres the other well known avenues for short time.

oh i get it now, your after stimulating conversationrolleyes.gif

I think Cabbages and Condoms is Romantic. My girl wondered about all the condoms and I told her the profits of the restaurant were for the health of Thai women. She was impressed. She posed for a picture next to the condom Santa, though didn't know it was condoms. : )
