Amari in DM was quite nice. I booked on Agoda about 3 weeks ago now and the room was 50% discount.

Same same but different.

Sorry wanted to book but fortunately read following at the bottom of the page (an annoying habit of mine) :

Well the off season, rainy season, is approaching, and it's not unusual for hotels to offer such deals at this time of the year, Amari did it last year, and we took advantage.

As for the restriction on residents, my girlfriend booked last year and signing up for the newsletter takes a few seconds and is no hassle, we got a few more offers from them last year as a result.

There is one way you (a non-Thai) can book these promotions – if you sign up and become a member of ONYX Rewards loyalty program at http://onyx-rewards.com/ before the start of the sale. This makes you eligible to participate in offers like these. Refer to clause below:

1. This offer is only valid for reservations made by past ONYX Hospitality Group guests, ONYX Hospitality Group newsletter subscribers, ONYX Rewards members and Thai Residents.

If you pm me your email address I can get you added to the program so you are eligible.

I couldn't manage a booking after registering and following all the steps. Just kept getting an error message.

According to their website the sale doesn't start until 25 April.

Doh! Thanks.

Since they were prominently displaying a countdown clock of remaining booking time, I assumed it had started alread.

If it had already started then there would not be a countdown clock !

Why not, a countdown clock till the end of the promotion is quite common.

Sale Starts: 25 April 2014, 23:00 GMT +7

For Stays: 1 May to 30 September 2014

http://www.onyx-hospitality.com/1free1/

Actually, I see in looking further, there are two different starting times for this promotion, according to the Amari website, as follows:

Promotion Validity:

  1. Bookable from 23:00 on 24 April 2014 to 22:59 on 27 April 2014 for ONYX Rewards members
  2. Bookable from 23:00 on 25 April 2014 to 22:59 on 27 April 2014 for the general public
  3. The stay period for this offer is from 1 May 2014 to 30 September 2014

It's under the Terms and Conditions sections, after you've clicked "Read More" at the very bottom of the promo page.

Bazmlb, you left out the #2 item that follows #1 in that section:

Expatriates residing in Thailand booking this promotional rate must show either a Work Permit or Residence Permit as proof of identification at check-in. Failure to do so will result in a full Best Available Rate with Breakfast being charged for the entire period of stay. Read more

I can't tell from the way they've written it whether the requirement for showing a work permit or residence permit applies only to the general public expats, or ALSO to the expats who may be members of the various ONYX affinity groups.

Yes, this option was mentioned earlier already.

It is written clearly: only applies to the general public expats.

As best I can tell, the Onyx Reward contact number on their website doesn't work, nor did the 800 number given to me by Amari Watergate when I called them for a contact number, so there appears to be no support for any problems while trying to book this other than email. Please feel free tell me, directly or by implication, what an idiot I am and to prove me wrong....smile.png

I don't see how you can say it was "written clearly."

I'm an Onxy member. But I'm also an expat living in Thailand without a work permit.

So from the way they've written it, how am I supposed to know whether I'm covered by pgh #1 or pgh #2.

If they wanted to make it clear, it should have said something like "expats living in Thailand WHO DON'T BELONG to one of Onxy's affinity groups must show either a work permit or residence certificate."

But they didn't say that, and thus left it unclear whether the work permit requirement applies to ALL expats, or just those who aren't Onxy affiliated.

Have to admit, all this talk is great publicity for them and a good way for hotels to off load rooms in the wet season

To me it is clear what they mean, obviously not to you.

I made a reservation tonight successfully using the "1free1" promo code via the Amari website, after registering both my Thai wife and myself via the Onyx Hospitality website.

I wasn't going to risk having Amari bail out on the promotion, if I made the reservation in my name and then arrived without a work permit. So I made the reservation in my wife's name and using her credit card.

For some reason, even though we both received email acknowledgements from Onyx of registering in their rewards program, when I later tried to use the user IDs and passwords we selected to log-in to their website, the IDs and passwords didn't work.

But, I still was able to use the "1free1" promo code tonight to make an online reservation via the Amari website that involved one paid night and the second night for free.

As of tonight, there still was no mention of the 1 for 1 promo on the Amari website, I presume, since the public promotion doesn't start until 11 pm Fri night.
