Bongkot gas field resumes operations ahead of schedule

BANGKOK, 24 April 2014 (NNT) – Energy giant PTT Plc has announced that maintenance work at the Bongkot natural gas field in the Gulf of Thailand has been completed today (April 23th).

The maintenance shutdown of the gas field began on April 10th and was scheduled to run until April 27th. However, since the maintenance has completed early by a period of four days, gas distribution to parts of Thailand have resumed as a result.

PTT senior executive vice-president Chakree Buranakanon said the gas field closure had minimal impact on the private and public sector. It was expected that the shutdown would affect 630 standard million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas supply, or 14% of Thailand's total demand.

PTT sought natural gas from other sources to supply the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) together with 16 million liters of fuel oil.

In addition to the temporary shutdown on Bongkot gas field, gas supply from the A18 block in the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Development Area (JDA) field in Songkhla will be disrupted from June 13 to July 10 due to another maintenance shutdown. The disruption is expected to affect 420 MMSCFD, 9.3% of Thailand's total gas consumption.
