If anyone is still wondering why the roads are still dangerous here in Thailand, check out the cost of a speeding fine in Canada:

''deux constats d'infraction totalisant 1606$'', Two violation tickets totalling 1,606$.

Just about 48,000 thai bahts.

And not yet the end of it. Might be fined for DUI, after the test results are available...

Might create a tad bit of fear for that driver next time he hits the road....not sure when he will be allowed to do that...

In Thailand, Thais do not feel such thing as 'Fear' of anything while on the road...

The only existing fear on the road is when they think Buddah might look the other way, and not protect them....

Maybe a difference between Canada and Thailand is that the Thais work at eradicating fear and the Canadians work at creating fear.

Thais have an underlying sense of 'everything is ok' or 'arai ja gerd gaw hai mun gerd'(whatever is meant to happen WILL happen'.

MAny Western countries have very safe roads but the majority of the population are mentally ill.
