Boarding Kennels

Featured Replies

I hope that my request for information is not considered critical of Nienke, whom I have met, like, and about whom have heard many kind words.

My question is simply what about flea and tick control on her new premises. My pup goes out and around on limited basis, nothing very adventurous. He is "protected" by regulation medication. As anyone with dogs here knows, there are "seasons" for fleas and ticks, so you keep an eye on that. After all, the fleas and ticks might find you tasty, too! Regular baths and examination help control the situation. Basically, the dog has been kept "flea and tick" free with regular medication, baths and examination. Takes a sharp eye sometimes during bathing!

I have used three boarding facilities in Chiang Mai. One is fairly "free range" with fenced individual kennels and some interaction among the dogs. Result: No fleas or ticks upon return home. Another is a vet with inside kennels. Pretty much caged animals inside. Not my preference, but never any ticks or fleas. A third is another vet where the dog was also caged inside. Pleasant enough, but the dog returned with enough fleas and ticks to rival Chinese national population. (And he even had a "booster" when he went in!) The fourth I took a look at and decided it was too dicey.

So, quite simply, Nienke (and I regret that I have not always heard good things about this issue with your older boarding place) what is the situation with you now? Fair enough question, I hope.
