Thai Passport expired, leaving country on Oz one ?

Featured Replies

Possible ?

Just a thought, as have tried to get her a new one 2 times now and failed because of all the crap going on in this country and not being able to do more than they want to do each day etc....

So, just wondering if this is possible and save some problems...we do not live in Bkk or any regional area where it is an easy trip to get to a PP office several times in a week to try to get it....and then there is school issues etc.

And then with all this other stuff unfolding with huge potential to get worse, I can see it getting harder than easier to get it.

Her Thai PP has expired, her last entry stamp is in her Thai PP....nothing in her Oz one yet, would she be allowed to depart on this one, even with showing the expired one and the stamp in it...or will they be particular asswholes and not allow.....even if not our fault in able to gain said PP.

I should state, if there is no great dramas in Bkk over next 2 months and offices shut again etc or the go slow is stepped up to a do not a lot pace....then we should be able to get the PP at some stage in these next 2 months with visits planned to Bkk twice in that time.

She will not be able to leave without having a new passport. She would not even be allowed to check in for the flight without one much less pass through immigration.

I don't fully understand what the problem with getting her a new passport is.

What passport office are you going to?

Every office has a limit on how many passports they are allowed to process per day. It is not a problem with the local staff.

Unfortunately: its not a good idea to present two passports to the Thai immigration and make them aware of the dual citizenship.

Formally they could report that to the interior office and they can initiate a process of revoking Thai citizenship.

This is from a letter of the Thai general consulate Frankfurt (its in German, 2 years old).

You write: "we do not live in Bkk" and "with visits planned to Bkk twice".

Q: Why got to BKK? Where du you live and is there no provicial PP office closer?

The provincial offices seem to be easier than BKK at the moment.

Did you try to book an appointment online for a new passport?

The OZ passport can only be used if it was used for entry into Thailand.

Two different passport can not be used in Thailand if a person has Thai nationality through naturalisation (you applied to become a Thai national). In that case you are only allowed to use your Thai nationality when in Thailand.

Persons who were born with Thai nationality can use both passports, but at immigration must us the passport they entered Thailand with.

^ dual citizenship is allowed...so not sure where you get that from.

We live 2 hours from Bkk....Korat is an hour and half away.

We tried korat last week, no go, wasted a day and a day out of school for the girl...how many times can I do that ?

Bangkok tried few months ago, again, no go and cannot keep staying there trying each day hoping they can organise themselves.

Never had issues before with Thai PP's, always done on walk in basis and all over in matter of very short time.....now with all the problems about the place and the closures etc....issues.

No, but what happened to the days of just rocking up out at chaeng wattana and getting the job done easily and quickly ?

Because of the demonstarions acces to CW-raod has been disrupted, causing problems with the passport service nationwide.

You cna book an appointment online at one of the temporary offices, or join the que at one of the other offices.

Can you book these days when you require it, or is it a pot luck kinda thing...as long way to travel and 2 kids in school....

I think you are going to have problems because the passport has actually expired. Similar happened to my daughter a few months ago but it was a case of less than 6 months validity on the passport. Couldn't get Thai passport for love nor money because of the protests.

Daughter going to work in Singapore, so checked in at the airport = problem at first with the airline because less than 6 months on Thai passport. Showed them UK passport for entering Singapore. That made it OK.

Going out of immigration we had been told that less than 6 months validity would be flagged and immigration boss on duty would need to give the OK (this is what friend at immigration told us). However the guy on immigration just stamped her out no questions - so it is poss. that either the airline called up to immigration or that they are not checking the 6 month thing because of the passport meltdown.

NB She then applied at the Thai Embassy in Singapore for passport renewal and has just received it - took 2 weeks. You have to make 2 trips to embassy to apply and pick up.

However in your case with an expired passport I don't know if immigration will stamp you out.

^ We did the same last year with less than 6 months and was not an issue as showed entry to other country would be on oz passport with years left....as it was, immi in the other country did not care about the 6 months either and entered her on the thai one so we did not have to pay for visa.

Showbags, may I ask why Korat was a no go?

We went the end of last month, forget the date now....got there about 9am and they said 'cannot' booked out and booked out until the 6th of this month.

Have you gone to the topic I posted a link to earlier and tryed using this website http://www.ufida.co.th/startpage.htm to make an appointment at the Esplanade office.

Yes...but Fletch says can only do 5 days in advance...we cannot come down for 2 weeks and then only have a few days, so bad luck if cannot get appointment for those days I guess.

Then we cannot be down until mid July and also need to get a visa for another country at that time.....so in reality not really possible as have to wait for passport and then go get visa...several days in Bkk....

Takes kids out of school just for that is not what I wish and considering protest levels in Bkk could go anywhere between now and then.....my OP was just an enquiry to see if departing on the Oz was possible, seems not, so shall have to deal with it somehow.

Did not realise the CW site was still blocked, thought I read somewhere some time ago open for business again.

Thanks Thailand.

You do not have to wait to pickup the passport after applying they will EMS it to you. Samran got his child's in 3 days.

A one day trip to Bangkok is all that would be needed for the passport.

They were going to open a temporary passport office a CW but those plans feel apart.

The shutdown is frustrating. Still curious to know why he can't organise a queue ticket in KK.
