New bridge across the Ping River in Mae Taeng

A new bridge and highway has been built across the Ping River which connects with the intersection at HWY-107 and the HWY-1095 Pai Road in Mae Taeng. The new highway is numbered HWY-1414 and goes just a few kilometers directly to the HWY-1001 Maejo Road as the attached image shows. Thought I would pass this along as it allows you to avoid the construction south of Mae Rim in HWY-107.

That's really good news for me, thanks. Is the road open yet?

Yes, it is open, but coming down -1095, you have to do a left at the intersection, and then the first u-turn so that you can take the short off ramp once you are headed south to HWY-1414. (This is just past the Spaghetti Works which probably has the best Pizza in Thailand.) The straight through from -1095 is not open yet as the traffic light software has not been completed yet. (Is every one a custom job?) There is also a very minor detour around a small pond that does not have the bridge done yet, but it is very straight-forward.

Coming north on HWY-1001, the HWY-1414 intersection has a median built up but it is still unmarked. In daylight, look for a new wide road that looks more like an airport runway.

OK thanks I always wondered where that new road was going. Hopefully the 1001 is a little less congested to the outer ring than the 107.

Best pizza in LOS eh? OK I'll have to check it out...

Oh--No--we are going to get Hi-jacked with Pizza recommendations!!

Interesting. Traffic circumnavigating Mae Rim will certainly be an improvement. Unfortunately, development is increasingly rapid and heavy along 1001 through Mae Jo. The road is generally better and certainly safer, but witness the the three ring road intersections which get quite jammed up many hours of the day.

To the south, the new bypass around San Patong and Hang Dong should be welcome, but --- unfortunately --- that may make Rte 121 (the "Canal Road") which ties into Rte 107 to the North still busier going through the West side of town so close to Doi Suthep, particularly at the Suthep and Huey Kaew Roads. Those intersections these days are not at all pleasant at some hours.

Unfortunately, there never seems to have been any plan to channel North-South through traffic to the East rather than to the West of the city. The new bridge and road connection between 107 and 1001 seems to be relatively inexpensive patchwork.

Over the last several months, HWY-1414 has been barricaded for unknown reasons but two days ago they finally took them away and it is open for vehicle traffic. The traffic light at the HWY-1095/HWY-107 has still not been configured for the new road but at least the route is open.
