OK, the PADC and the Army and the various royalist factions and the courts have implemented their plan, which was initiated last year and dragged on much longer than they expected. The last time I checked, he blocked elections to prevent Thais from expressing their true opinions.

If he has such "massive" backing, why has he achieved absolutely nothing yet after more than 6 months? Yingluck is out because of the courts, not because of Suthep, but otherwise Puea Thai is still firmly in charge and the army has so far refused every request that Suthep has made.

Well, if "most of the country" is behind his ideas, why is he and his clique so opposed to elections? They say, "but if we have elections the PTP will just buy all the votes again." Come on, don't any of you remember Newin Chidchop and the Phum Jai Thai party? They bought votes by the boxcar load in 2010 and it didn't change the outcome. If the people are really behind you they'll take Thaksin's money (reducing his resources for fighting on) and vote for your program. That's if "most of the country" is really with you. What are you afraid of? Do you think Thai people well really vote against their own best interests for a couple of hundred baht?

I'm sorry, I didn't see any proposals for reforms in Abhisit's proposals. I think there was vague lip service that reform must happen, but exactly what? I never did understand what arguments the PDAC had that the Feb 2 elections were "rigged." Do you want each voter to come up on a stage somewhere and announce in public what his vote is and then give reasons why he thinks that is the best choice? What "democracy" do you want? And if you want an appointed government, who is going to appoint them, who selects the people who do the appointing, and what legal basis do they have what other people should agree with them?

I don't know, maybe someone in PDAC, maybe even Suthep, has actually addressed this, but I don't have time to sift through the thousands of hours of inflammatory speeches they've made searching for it. This is really about who is going to be incontrol when something happens.

What Suthep has, in Thailand's Faux society, is a certain group of mostly Bangkok people who, because of their perception of their place in the hiarachy, people who wish to align themselves with him because it differentiates them from the northern and northeastern people who they look down on. He can never do it under Section 7. His Majesty said before about Section 7 that the Prime Minister must be elected by the people. Also, the Constitution prohibits having an interim Prime Minister. The flaw is he misinterpreted the laws.

A lot of people around here need to seek professional help...lol...but this post is a prize winner. Take it from a U.S. citizen, there is no way that Thais will EVER travel to the U.S. without visas. We don't even allow our closest allies travel to our country without Visas. Even Thais married to US citizens have problems getting visas. The process takes up to 3 years. If you look at the economic report for 2014 regarding Southeast Asian countries, it is predicted that Thailand will have nearly zero economic growth annually and countries like the aboved mentioned will experience an annual growth averaging about 7% for the next 10 to 20 years. Tourism drives the Thai economy and that industry is eroding as we speak. Did you know all of the countries you talk about just issued travel warnings for Thailand,? If Thailand does away with elections and democracy, the West will reject the leaders who pose such laws and actions and it will actually become harder for Thais to travel. The US and Europe promote democracy first and foremost. Have you ever heard of the COLD WAR? It was all about Democracy (U.S.) and Communism (U.S.S.R.). Democracy won and is defended by the super powers at all costs. I think Thailand would be better suited to pass a law that again allows the use of xanax...lol.

Okay, where was the flaw again? Did they actually pay someone to write this? No, read Bangkokpundits blog to get a sense of where the real flaws are. Now, that is not going to matter, because this power grab is not about following the law, it is about making it look like it follow some law and logic. It is to be able to meet their international peers without having to explain a military coup.

The real flaw here is that for anyone but the Establishment this is very transparent. I don't know how you gained the information on Suthep's massive backing, certainly not via the ballot box. I think the constitution is not fit for purpose and allows frivolous challenges to the elected government, plus the judiciary in Thailand are far from impartial; having too much power over politics and government.

An ousted party has to come up with policies that are attractive to the electorate in order to gain power and not run to the military or judiciary every time they lose.
