The WAY to go around the Curfew-- is a CURFEW Party... meaning the Bar closes the Doors at 11-- those who want to remain in the bar till 5 am... Wil be treated to the Curfew Party... This is going down in Patpong Soi 2 tonight-- You can find the place.. Always a way to party... even during Curfew times!

But your not allowed a gathering of 5 or more, so I guess a party of 4 will be a party no more.

I thought the topic was about bars in Thailand. rolleyes.gif

What a silly question. U think all of Thailand's economy is based on bars? If that we're the case, Phuket would have been extinct after the tsunami. The bars were closed for months. And as far as feeling sorry for the bar girls, I am sure they will even make more money by telling their numerous sponsors overseas they need more money. "Please teerak, can send more money this month?" And then they copy and paste it to the ten other guys they are already milking. This curfew seems like a great thing for the bar girls.

The gathering of 5 relates to a gathering for political purposes.....getting pished in a bar at night isn't political

The bar trade is tough business to be in. The bar owners will struggle and the bar girls will struggle. The girls I feel sorry for are the bar girls that are good girls and only make money off the drinks customers buy them. These girls are going to really struggle. I hope the country gets there shit together real quick.

Yeah, get it together for the good girls.

some of the waitresses in the heineken dresses or short jeans get more sausage more often than the girls that are "for rent"

I'm going to a beer garden tonite in BKK. I will let you know what how it feels. After 10pm i will come "home" to the soi where there is another bar where all the patrons are no further than 75m from home!

i did that last night and we sat drinking a few hours beyond the curfew in our small soi in bkk centre

i doubt tonight will be any different since nothing happened last night and confidence

will only grow if nothing keeps happening to curfew breakers .......

Gosh I love to hear from the blue nose holier than thou crowd. They get so upset with the idea that somewhere someone may be having fun. I'd like to see the bar girls go after the coup leaders.... then they would have a problem on their hands! Don't want to piss off the lot of their ilk! In for a world of trouble.

Thats right. . Not everyone is here for the culture. Me being one. Let's hope they get their shit together before the whole place falls apart.

Do you really think that the whole place will fall apart because a few places in this huge country will no longer cater for beer swilling men who sit in seedy knocking shops and seem obsessed with prostitutes? There is nothing pleasant about these bars, they exploit women .

If Thailand could rid itself of the image of GoGo bars, beer bars and the hideous punters that go with them, it would be a good thing.

Sorry. Rant over

Actually yeah it will fall apart, because many tourists come to the tourist spots to party and a nightlife. If the bars and nightly entertainment go down this is what it will mean:

Tourists will go to other places to party and have a good time, less tourists mean less money being passed through the hands of all businesses, hotels, restaurants, travel agents, tour groups, and retail will all suffer. If these businesses suffer, then they will start laying people off. This will mean thousands if not 100's of thousands of people without work. No work, no money which means no food or means to live. Unfortunately, it's the tourists that really drive a big part of the Thai economy and if they disappear, so will the money and the economy. So is this really a good thing? Big companies such as Toyota and Honda have already expressed concerns that if it goes this way, they will consider pulling out of Thailand and this is just the start.

You are wrong, I would suggest that the vast majority of tourists do not sit in glorified knocking shops.

There is no reason to have plenty of clubs / bars / restaurants etc where you can party and have a good time, and attract a more wealthy tourist.

I have no illusion about prostition in any major city across the world, but personally I find places where you pick a human being by a number to satisfy your selfish sexual urged demeaning.

If all these places were closed down, Thailand would be a better place.

enough bars in all of Thailand... most will survive, some will not... they should be used to it, enough public holidays in Thailand where they in general would not be allowed to sell any alcohol...

some bars will have a new business model and just move opening hours from 2pm-2am to 10am-9pm... happy hour from 10am to 1pm.. and most alcoholics would gladly start drinking few hours earlier in order to have enough when they must go home early...

Not legal to sell Alcohol in Thailand until after 5pm (See 7/11 statement) so bars will open for a few hours only.

We are talking about BARS, not shops.... bars can sell alcohol from opening to closing.... or have you ever been declined your beer for lunch or early afternoon???

SHOPS can not sell alcohol between (I think) 11am and 5pm... EXCEPT when you buy in huge amounts... so I can not buy 1 bottle of wine, but I can buy 15 bottles of wine, because then they see it as "business purchase" and not "personal purchase".

I can not be selfish so I will stock up during the day and drink some extra beer at night. Can not let the brewery workers and their families suffer for this. Have a heart and think about all the kids.

ooops, what about the poor bar girls and their husbands and boy friends and families at home in the village? Man, it gets complicated but we should all do the best we can.

What, now you tell me? Quickly have to make a whole new plan to be a good member of society.

Too bad for the foreign drunks and barflies . If the gateway to the brothel is closed who will shed a tear. The whores, the letchers and the many foreign pimps. Thailand will be a far better place without any bars. Do you think the army knows this? Do the leaders of the army look like alcoholics ? How about most good buddhists which includes the majority of Thais ; do you think they are worried about the bars closing ?

If you are worried about the bars closing it is time to return home where you can pour yourself into a bottle.

$20,000 monthly rent in NAna Plaza for some bigger venues. How do they make it with no curfew? Im sure the Nana lanlords will suspend rent for the time being.

Was that 20,000B or dollar. If Baht, very cheap and can afford to sit it out.

Ok close them down and see what happens. I can guarantee the tourist numbers will decline.
