icare999 Posted May 24, 2014 Share Posted May 24, 2014 i'm not surprised quite a number of "hardcore" TVF members support this fascist coup, a coup btw widely condemned by academics/intellectuals and real Thailand specialists (not some chronic drunks from pats). the atmosphere on this forum is often right-wing and of course utterly simple-minded. edit: typo corrected who cares what you think and get over it I'm happy that at last Taksin and his vile lot might be out for good Who cares what academics think they are a bunch of tossers anyway. Ive spent my working life working with so called experts and rest and was considered an expert myself in my field but I was full of shit as are all of them. I just collected the money and laughed. He's put himself in a Solomonic position, where he makes final decisions on all important issues. There are deep pitfalls in doing that. It was getting so outrageous, I had to stop him half way. Needless to say, I cannot repeat it (and I also don't believe it), but let's just say it has been many years leading up to this, and YL and Suthep are not the only ones taking orders. The 'story' got outrageous at one point (which I won't repeat, it would be the biggest scandal this world has ever seen), but even more outrageous when the missing MH 370 was brought into play This person did have one thing right: a foreigner can never really understand what is truly behind what has been happening the last 6 months. What we see are just excuses given to hide the real power struggle. What's amazing is, most Thais know it but will not speak of it. Having nightmare's all the time? I don't understand why the general has taken over the senate but I trust he is doing what has to be done for the good of the country and the people. Dictatorship is not usually good for ANY country or its people. Now that the senate has been disbanded the General is the sole authority on rules and laws governing the country. Long time before you will see any elections here now! Right, because elections worked out so well for Thailand. There's too much talk about one aspect of democracy - elections, and not enough about all the other aspects that make democracy functional: government transparency and accountability, free and fair campaigning all over the country and not just where it's safe, informed and involved citizenry, independent judiciary, an adversory and impartial press. The last 15 years have clearly demonstrated that without all or most of these other institutions in place Thai "democracy" is just mob rule.
