I've got a one year Non-Imm multiple entry visa. Mid June, I have to renew my motorbike licence (1 year).

Will I get a five year, or, only a one year?

I reckon you are going to be a test case for the forum, KB. The lady did say annual non-imms qualify for a 5 year licence but I don't know if that's exactly what she meant.

Please post your result.

"I reckon you are going to be a test case for the forum, KB." - if that's the case, I expect to see "test cases" every day on this thread. smile.png

They make it up as they go, and every Land Transport Office is different in Thailand.

What value could you possiblly take from one individual going to one particular Land Transport Office, in Thailand - zero.

One says you need a medical certificate - another says you don't - blah, blah, blah.

Turn up on the day and see what you get KB, maybe a 1 year, maybe a 5 year.

If you get a 1 year, sadly, if you went the next day, you may have got different staff and got a 5 year.

Alternatively, if you get a 5 year, good luck to you - if you went the next day, maybe you would have got a 1 year.

Some guy with the same circumstances in a different part of Thailand may very well have a different outcome to you on Phuket.

Who knows here, but one thing is for sure, you are not Thai, and a Thai would be getting his/her 5 year licence. smile.png

Update from Krabi if anyone's interested. I had no problems at all yesterday (5th June) when I renewed my 1 yr temporary license (which was 6 months out of date) and received my new one valid for 5yrs 11 mths within 1 hour!

All that was required was the usual letter from immigration, simple doctors certificate, copies of passport showing my non-o visa and the fee of 405 baht. I had to do the colour blind test but nothing else and was not asked to sit through the video.

Hope this is helpful for anyone who (like me) had read the earlier report and is concerned they will only get a 1 yr license. Ray.

That's Krabi.

This is "The Democratic People's Republic of Phuket."

We are not even under Thai Law over here. biggrin.png

Have just got back from getting my new five year driving license for a motorbike.

Doesn't seem that there is any change in policy at all.

Took along with me:-

Original passport.

Photocopy of front page.

Photocopy of Non-Imm O visa with entry stamp and TM card.

Original proof of residence from immigration.

Photocopy of proof of residence.

Original doctor's certificate.

Expired license.

Only had to do the reaction test and the colour test.

All up, took about an hour.

Interesting thing about the driving license vidoe that woke me up is the give way rules

When driving on the road you give way to people entering from roads on your left

But not to people entering the road from driveways or private roads and parking areas

At roundabouts you give way to people on your right

That explains why people on side streets on the left hand side pull out without checking

for any oncoming traffic, especially bikes

Yes, traffic from the left has right of way, if the roads are of equal importance (less numbers is more important, so 4233 (Promthep to Kata) has right of way over roads without number, also over people coming from the left).

And are you here on visa or extension of stay?

I have a one year multiple entry Non-Imm O.

There were plenty of foreigners who were retirees who I presume were on extension of stay. They weren't having any problems.

So all in all after several reports on here combined with recent personal experience the answer to "Do you need a medical certificate" is neither yes or no, but "sometimes". Which appears also to be the answer to the question "Do you have to watch the instruction video".

What may be of interest to others, after quite a few panicky posts about that, is that it seems that people with a visa not being a B-visa still can get a 5-year license. The same goes for people with a visa extension.
