If these police sections are biased towards red shirts and my wife seems to think they are then a good job but there needs to be similar action in other areas that lean the other way.

Well I have noticed that police are stopping bikes where riders have no helmets in Chiang Mai looking at docs but not collecting money. Very nice for a change.

It seems to me the army is better planned and has an action plan unlike the monkeys on both sides of government who said they had a plan.

I am called in to the BOI to do business which has been getting stuffed around for over a year now.

The general means business and so far it seems to be going good

I'm well aware of the definition and admire your prowess at cut and paste but I fail to see how applying that kind of description to a large group of people is helpful in this time of tension.

Thai Labor Law is the reason they are not sacked.

Prosecution is a separate thing entirely. Moving them to an inactive post does not mean they will not be prosecuted.

An apt name for it, i concur that there are many redshirts here. Its great that they take no half measures to break the power of Taksin and make sure the police will do as the army says.

The red supporters here must really not like this purge as it seems that this time the Shins are really loosing their grip on Thailand.

Thai Labor Law is the reason they are not sacked.

Prosecution is a separate thing entirely. Moving them to an inactive post does not mean they will not be prosecuted.

I really hope you are correct. Thailand deserves a new start but until the police are sorted out from top to bottom nothing will change.

Difference here, red villages---on entering--This is a red shirt area/village. red flags headman as bent as a hairpin. This is in so many areas, please have your own voting preferences healthy--BUT control by the headman NO NO.

Yellow is outdated near everywhere -better you Quote something like "other than red" areas this is more grown up.

To remind you at a later date mega YELLOW (as you put it) areas will relax much more than the fanatical red. This is the difference.

Indictment needs an investigation - moving them to inactive posts gets them off the scene and out of harms way quickly without any legal issues. Prosecutions may well come - we do not know the agenda of who will be put in to replace them - investigation from the top down might be the order of the day to remove the rot. If one of these 17 new police departments is a real IA Dept. then prosecution and investigation may wait until that is operational.

Has anyone seen the chief of the Pattaya station? He seems to have gone MIA. I see his boss is on the list, maybe he is not high enough up the food chain for this "cleansing".

Pattaya Police station was taking over by the military the first night of curfew. However, the the chief wasn't there.

Interesting they keep using the phrase "inactive posts", meaning still employed by the Police but no longer functional in their present form. Question stills lies, how are they being reprimanded for their actions? If indeed they have committed an offense ? The point of being transparent and accountable is applicable, and will undoubtedly convince or at least reassure the public that significant changes are being made.

There are sometimes legal and strategic reasons why these people are transferred to inactive posts:

- Maybe grounds for suspicion but not enough solid evidence, so dismissal could be problematic legally.

- If they are dismissed and remain in the local area, it's possible they still have and use the power (use fear) to intimidate other police, local government officials, etc., and maybe directly oversee the continuation of any money stream, by on the spot fear tactics.

I's guessing that the people transferred to inactive posts in Bkk will be watched very carefully until some form of result ensues.

On a much bigger scale, I'm wondering if there will be a 'tipping point / timing' when many government officials gain the courage to come forward with information about previous dirty dealings, interference, intimidation, etc. And of course that could mean dirty dealings from all sides of the equation.

In fact I hope that does happen and contributes to a new mindset, new standards, etc.

The word ' infested' reveals the political leanings of the Thai PBS broadcasters.

It seems that General P. has learned from the last coup and will be much more thorough in removing any vestiges of Thaksin influence in any 'power' positions in the country. Everything is being done methodically, no one is being hurt and the country, as a whole, is very quiet and returning to normalcy. I have to think this 'operation' has been planned in great detail for some time, now. I think this is only the beginning as I remember that when PTP first came to power that Dr. Thaksin was even appointing prison wardens. There a great many people, who are still in positions of power and authority, that owe their positions directly to Thaksin's patronage. They will all have to go if Thaksin's influence is to be completely extinguished. I am amazed at the sureness and efficiency of the 'purge' and will be staying tuned to see just how far it goes. So far, I couldn't be more pleased at what is transpiring.

It seems that 16 senior police officers may have to explain their actions, or lack of them; and their willingness to ignore blatant criminality and to accept illegal accept orders to do so.

Hopefully Tarit will be next, asked to explain the pressing of charges against the former governments opponents as a means of political suppression.

What about the senior police officer in charge of Bangkok during the protests?

You're a funny guy, I'll give you that, 10/1000 critics? really? In the time that I've been here which granted hasn't been as long as you, my observations would put it more around 25% and 75% as it's the same people who tend to stick to the political threads, have you been basing your "assumptions" using the Suthep people/majority calculator? He was very prone to exaggerating too

for too long the ptp has been appointing staunch red supporters into the northern areas to make sure that the thai people are not able to do anything other than what the ptp/reds tell them too. By doing this the northern areas will now be able to speak their minds without being threatened, lets hope they continue this and remove the red leaders from the communities so that people can go about their lives without the threats of violence hanging over their every move, we might even be able to get people from "other" parties than the ptp to be able to talk to the people again without the violence perpetrated by the reds, might even get some entertainers there as well....another great move by the general
