Work Permit for currency Bank account in thailand

Featured Replies

I have a student visa (2.year) for one year. I wanted to open a currency account in euro or dollar. They told me that i need for that a work permit. Do anyone know how i can get a work permit?

Try another bank/branch...rules change like the wind. TMB seems to be the <removed> about the WP, even though I showed them my long-stay O-A that specifically says "Employment Prohibited." Thais shooting themselves in the feet? Never. Catch-22 situations in Thailand? Never. 80 THB per hour managers making up rules to inconvenience farang customers? Never. I like BKK-Bank; it only took me eight years to be able to bank online.

Agreed try another branch or a different bank. I use the Siam Commercial took me about an hour. Might help uif you have a receipt for payment of rent. Don't know about that but can't hurt.

As Thighlander says rules change like the wind.

foreign currency accounts are getting more difficult to get in Thailand.

Easy at SCB, if you show your visa and some evidence of your address, such as a copy of your rental agreement. Go to the Tha Pae branch to get the foreign currency account. Bangkok Bank was also straight forward, I used the Chiang Mai Gate branch.

I've just been informed by my broker that foreign currency accounts in Thailand will now be subject to a 1500 Baht fee for deposits and 1500 Baht fee for withdrawals (all currencies). Previously I had been charged 500 Baht to transfer EUR or CHF to THB.
