Extension of Stay: Long-Stay Retirement and Other Long-Stay Categories

Recently, a friend asked me a question about extending a Long-Stay/Retirement Visa, or renewal of permission to stay in Thailand for an additional year. I Googled it and found the attached guidance (updated in January 2014) provided by the Expat Club of Pattaya. It is well-organized, clear, remarkably complete and, in my view, very helpful given the guidance that is splashed all over this site and the web generally. I hope that it is helpful to you. (Note: information is also given through a link or two to other types of long-stay extensions.)

The guidance and information is completely consistent with personal experience at the Chiang Mai Immigration Office over the years except for a quibble or two. For example, the cost, apparently, is higher in Pattaya (2000 bhat). Another example: the window of time within which bank deposits in a bank letter and confirmation by bank book (maybe 7 days in Pattaya; sometimes reported to be within a day in Chiang Mai). This is the sort of detailed guidance which everyone needs.

There is a caveat, of course, as expressed in the Pattaya Expat Club of document:

...The following is the documentation required, but remember, the Immigration Office, at their discretion, can ask for more documentation...
