Us Cell Phones In Thailand

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of buying a Kyocera SmatPhone 7135 CDMA Cell Phone (so i can run an elglish/thai dictionary on it). Will it work in Thailand (BKK and Ko Samui?).

if so, what would I need to get? new sim card or something?

if the Kyocera doesn't do it, are there any other Palm phones that will?

thanks steve

Phone should be triband, and unlocked. Your best bet would probably buy a Thai Sim Card and then go from there.

you had better do some research as I think thailand mostly uses gsm phones, I have no seen any cdma networks advertised here..

Although GSM is by far the largest system Hutch, which is heavily advertised, is CDMA as below but does not provide coverage on Ko Samui yet:

Today you can enjoy multimedia services from CDMA 2000 1X

network coverage existing within 25 provinces in the central greater

Bangkok area, Eastern, and Western parts of Thailand. Hutchison CAT Wireless Mulitmedia Service Limited has been awarded the contract to provide marketing services for CDMA2000 1X wireless high-speed multimedia services in Thailand

Hutch uses cdma, they market phones, as well as their aircard on which you get 143 kbps internet connection...

Works in Bkk and Pattaya, don't know about the rest of Thailand though...
