By "us" I mean the expats living here in Chiang Mai.

It's a forgone conclusions that Hillary Clinton will be the next US president, unless she decides not to run, or dies before the election. The way I see it, she will be both good and bad for us.

Good in that there will be less erosion of US federal benefits like Social Security, military disability retirements, etc. Less erosion helps out the retired US expats but not others.

The second issue is that she will be bad for those of us who engage in, ahem, consorting with the ladies for a price. Some might call this Human Trafficking, and with Hillary at the helm, I would expect worldwide women's rights issues that would end up closing down places like Loi Kroh road and Sayuri.

So what do others think about this?

Seems to me that Washington is so ,<deleted> up that nothing gets done, so I wouldn't worry about any "meaningful" legislation coming out of Washington any time soon on any issue. Just more pointless bickering as we all (well, Americans anyway) head for the abyss . . . . . . now I'm depressed . . .

Would much rather you predicted the lottery numbers and pm me :)

Realistically at some point (Hillary or otherwise) Loi Kroh will be killed off...change in government policy/enforcement here, loss of tourism, better education/options for girls, attraction of Bangkok, girls moving to Chinese/Korean/Japanese linked establishments etc etc

Having said that cant see Hillary affecting the significantly larger establishments/numbers catering for Thais. Giks, Dek Sideline girls, hole in the wall bars and karaoke joints will outlive the cockroach.

Acting on limiting trafficking (sex work or other work) will be no bad thing for Thaivisa posters (I would hope) but may make a dent in some areas for Thais.

Really? Obama's poll numbers are worse than Bush's, after the Katrina debacle. How much can she really distance herself from him, and the massive failures of Obamacare. Her statement about being "dead broke" when they left the WH didn't resonate too well with a lot of people, especially the 30% of US adults, who actually have a negative net worth.

Romney's plan to give people vouchers for Medicare would have been the best thing to ever happen to expats over 65.

Hillary's health is as questionable as Vince Foster's "death," her cattle futures trades, Whitewater, Benghazi, and her low-life thug connections with the Chicago "Slopfia."

The Dems will lose the Senate in November; that seems to be more of a sure thing.

It is no sort of a sure thing that Madame Hillary will ever be elected President of the United States. She is distrusted and loathed by millions of voters, including many who always vote Democratic. She will lose badly if the Republicans wise up, kick the Tea party to the curb, and nominate Jeb Bush.

I think the GOP is quietly promoting the Hillary "groundswell" because they realize how unelectable she really is.

Other than inserting the first line to try and make it look relevant , it's got buggerall to do with Chiang Mai, as subsequent posts duly illustrated. It doesn't bother me though.
