Looking at renting a no frills car for about 10 days and without the full waiver it's coming out at about 9k bht. With the 0% damage waiver it's looking like 11k bht.

Thats ridiculous, thats honestly approaching what I would pay back in the UK.

Is this the norm?

Naboo is right. I pay about 30k per month from Avis, all in. That's a discount for the monthly rate.

That's a rip-off. You can get monthly rates of 16,000.

That might be correct, but what type of insurance is on offer ?

You know that Avis/Hertz/Budget are offering real first class insurance. Long time ago I stopped renting from the el cheapo private outfits. Always rent from a known company.

Check Hertz - I had a good deal from them last year it was well under 1000 per day.

Thanks guys will do some digging :)

I will be renting a car for a week while mine, which has full insurance, is in the shop. Anybody know if in still insured driving another car like in some other places?

In Thailand it is the car that is insured....not the driver.
