tlcwaterfall Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I am using a Phillips electric shaver and it is not doing a great job. Not getting a close shave. So I am looking for recommendations from knowledgeable board members for an electric shaver that will give me a close shave. Any helpful replies are appreciated.
paulchiangmai Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Are the cutters more than about six months old? That seems to be the life of a Philishave, I have been using mostly Philishaves for the past 60 years and have always found after about six months it will need new cutters which cost about the same as a new shaver, recently I threw away about six Philishaves which were perfect in every way except the cutters were blunt. Mind you other brands are no better.

xylophone Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Been using Philips Philishave for years and found them ok, then changed to the latest super duper model (Arcitec) and have been most disappointed. Decided to change brands and bought a Braun 330s-4 (Series 3) and IMO it is a much better shave. 1
taotoo Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I get these from tesco/bigc, and just replace them once a year. Excellent for heavy stubble, though not sure of current availability. http://www.panasonic.com/th/consumer/health-and-beauty/mens-grooming/shaver/es-843.html 1

I find that in the heat and humidity here I have to clean out the blades (the actual blades not just the collected shavings) much more often than elsewhere. The Arcitec 3D models especially.
chris2004 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I have found Philips to be the worse of all the elctric shavers and even when new don't give a good shave. Brauns are probably the best but i gave up with all electrics, i never got a decent shave. Back now with a blade razor which is so much better. 1
wow64 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I have a panasonic shaver which is water proof if you use gel its as close as a blade. Sent from my c64
loppylugs1 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Electric shavers are good in cold climates, hot ones not so.Sweat, oils etc seeping from the skin tend to clog up the cutters, can use a alcohol purchase from any pharmacy as a pre electric, few drops of Singer sewing machine oil that is ready available on the cutters helps too 1
daveAustin Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Waste of time, though probably ok if you're lucky enough to have bumfluff.
katana Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Never really liked electric shavers. Prefer a Gillette Mach 3. One of the few products to really live up to its advertising. 2

MAJIC Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Electric razors will never give a 100% close a shave as a wet razor. My self I favour Braun, which are quality Razors, that give you a pretty close shave, the one I have is the series 1-190,rechargable,which charges very quickly (about twenty minutes) and lasts on average a week. Washable Cleaning of the blades (can be done under a cold tap and using the brush) blades are reasonable priced compared to other brands at 600 bahts. The Braun range is quite extensive. 1
NeverSure Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I have a fairly heavy beard and no luck with electrics. To me it's faster to use a Gillette Mach 3 and get a closer shave.
jaideeguy Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If I go 5 or 6 days without shaving, my cheapo Phillips won's cut the brush so I have to use a barber's shears to pre mow my beard, which has always been tough and fast growing. I've always hated the blade type wet shavers as they give me a rash. Now, I do my shaving while driving and save much time but get funny looks from people that maybe think I'm talking on the mobil phone?
