Phuket burns 500-million baht of pirated goods

PHUKET: -- Thailand yesterday destroyed almost 500 million baht of pirated goods in the South to emphasise the country's determination to rid of all copied items and commitment to tackle copyright violation seriously.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce Piramol Charoenphao chaired the event to destroy products in violation of intellectual property rights in the southern resort island of Phuket Friday.

The seized goods were provided by Police Region 8, Police Region 9, as well as the Customs Office Region 4, with all goods confiscated through prevention and eradication measures against pirated products in the country.

A total of 86,803 illegal items worth 495 million baht which included pirated CDs, DVDs, watches, clothing, purses, leather goods and shoes were burnt at the Phuket Municipality’s main waste incinerator.

Well done I suppose, but I feel it´s just for show, and will be business as usual very soon again.

On another note, tried to get a motorbike-taxi the other day.

Like I always have done, "wink" them in when they pass. This time though not a single one stopped, and apparently you had to find a designated MC-taxi stand to get one.

Don´t know if this was just on this soi or is being implemented everywhere, got a nice, but hot, stroll back home anyway. .

good PR campaign on paper, what is the US would downgrade thailand again for pirated good

anyway, as long as they don't make fake PHARMACEUTICS ... it is 1000x less than the human trafficking & forced (child) prostitution
