What's the fare when you are not chartering it? I lived here about 5 years ago and seem to think it was 15 baht. Is it twenty now?

Any new weirdnesses to watch out for.

Thanks

Like daoyai says, Red trucks are 20 now. Some of the other color Songthaews on routes, still charge 15B

20 now, same weirdness as always, you will get the occasional driver trying to charge higher for farangians.

I travelled about 1km last week, gave the driver a 20baht note, and he asked for 40 baht. I just said 'songsip baht krab', he gave me a silly grin and drove off.

nice try. wai2.gif

Well you were wrong but not as bad as I was. the driver said see sip and I meant to say yee s but it came out hah sip On the way I realized my mistake so I decided to teach my self a lesson. When I got to my destination I gave him hohk sip and said tip. Walked away he was bewildered and amused for sure but I have not made that mistake again. Truth be known I have no problem with 30 baht for that trip I take it a lot and it is not like 4 years ago when the price was raised every thing else including my income has gone up including the drivers cost's

'Sow baht" in Lanna and Shan language

Nor do I but then again they have a higher volume than a Songthaew.

My income has gone up and I have no problem with the 10 baht here and there. I did not move to Thailand for economic reasons and have no problem with spending a little more on some thing that has been the same for 4 years.

How much should I pay from TP Gate to Immigration?

Thanks

If the driver already has passengers going to airport plaza, you may get there for 20 or he may say 30-40, not more than 40.

Depending where he lives there may be a free songthaew to the airport plaza. It is just a short walk to the immigration from there.

I know being your A farang you don't want to pay more than A Thai citizen. But the way I look at it is 10 baht,20 baht 40 baht is chump change.I lose more than that in my pants pockets.Remember the average thai is making around 12000 baht A month.

In most countries they would cry blue murder with double tiered taxi prices, but here it's fine?

In plenty of Asia and the Middle East haggling over prices , especially for a service is not unusual, and to answer your question, yes, here it is fine. They try to charge as much as they can, and so if they think a wealthier person, Western, Asian, Arab, Thai or whoever, is prepared to pay more then they will ask for more. Get used to it, and brush up on your haggling skills if you like, or alternatively, spend your time being miserable and angry.
