Staff rush to get furniture out of the office.

PHUKET: -- A suspected short-circuit filled the Phuket Governor's office with smoke this afternoon.

The alarm was raised after people smelled smoke, and then saw it coming out of upstairs windows of the office, on Narison Rd, Phuket Town.

As staff rushed to shift furniture out of the building before it smelled irretrievably of smoke, firefighters were called.

The fire was tracked on a short-circuit in an air conditioner installed above the upstairs ceiling, with burning plastic cable sheathing producing dense choking smoke.

The firefighters were able to put the fire out in 10 minutes. No on was hurt.

Governor Maitri Inthusut was not there at the time.

Look at some of the wiring around you. It is hardly surprising there are fires given the incompetence and lack of electrical safety in Thailand.

Don't like it? Go home or stop complaining. Enjoy what is here like sunshine, palm trees, beaches, et al..

In the Event of a fire

1) Don't sound the alarm

2) Don't leave the building via the safest route

3) Leave all Doors open

4) Use any available flower pots to tackle the fire

5) Please Make sure all furniture is placed at the fire assembley point
