Electronic monitoring devices considered for Don Mueang, Phuket airports
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- After achieving success at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the authorities are planning to use electronic monitoring devices at the capital's Don Mueang International Airport as well as at the Phuket International Airport in a move to prevent tour guides and taxi drivers from harassing tourists.

A source from the Airports of Thailand, said the authority would seriously consider using these devices, especially since the Probation Department's deputy chief Kasem Moonchan's has said that none of the 106 cases they had been used on since March had violated their probation or repeated the offence.

I always thought harassing tourists was part of their job.

Harassment , hustling and conning on arrival in Thailand is part of the "lure" and charm of Thailand.

Why not just ban them and if caught within 2 KM of an airport, its of to the clapper for a couple of years to reflect.

I guess I have been lucky not to have been bothered (ever) by tour guides. Maybe I look too poor and shady for it to be worth their while. I have been bothered by the "illegal" taxi drivers who I ignore whilst I make my way to the legal dispatcher.

What kinds of "electronic devices"?

Cameras? Hidden microphones? What?

Has anyone seen any more detail about what kinds of devices they'll be using?
